Probably would have been grumblings had Miles did what he's done at LSU in Lincoln, immediately following Osborne. Not likely enough to get him fired, however. BUT put Steve Pederson in charge with his own agenda, and then you've added another element to the mix. Frank Solich was forced into lame duck status before the 2003 season even started. So yes, not so much some unhappy fans. Quite a bit a controlling Pederson.

I know many were in agreement with Frank's dismissal but not sure there are not more upset with Bo right now.

Good god...
Let me explain. I dont hate BO, I dont hate the fans. I said I would hate it if BO cracks the top 25 next year ..yes I used the word hate.
The reason is. Neb has dropped off the map of relevance since BO has come on board. Each year a little lower than the year before but just good enough to keep him on. This year out of the top 25. So in that, if BO cracks the top 25 many here will give the excuse that he is improving. The talent on Neb, the history of Neb, the tradition of Neb all other things Neb, this team should never be out of the top 15. I've been anti Bo since his hire, he hasn't shown anything for me to become a fan of his.
Again I do not hate BO, I do not hate the team. I dont want BO or the team to lose ...even saying that is a joke. I just know what the package of BO contains and we have seen his best. geniuses dont need a 10 year process. I will give some leeway on that and say yes...get your system in place and make it work but in year 6 when you are still trying to figure out what that system is, is when it becomes a joke.

I use Hockey and Herb Brooks as i consider him to be one of the best coaches of any sport. He took a group of kids and put them together and made them a family. He got kids from MN, North Dakota, Boston that all hated each other and made them play TOGETHER. Hell right before the olympics he scheduled a game with the Russians not so the kids had a chance to win they lost 10-3...Herb wanted the intimidation factor gone when they hit the ice in the olympics. He wanted them to see what a team plays like when they pay more attention to the name on the front of the jersey than the name on the back.

So you can assume all day every day that I want this team to fail...that is the furthest thing from the truth. What I want is for BO to become the coach he was labeled as. I'm as much of a fan as anyone on this site. Just because I don't blow bubbles and whistle the Neb fight song under a rainbow does not make me any less of a fan

I apologize for saying you hate Bo. That is where I went too far. Instead of jumping all over you, I should have asked for clarification. I know that you are a good and passionate fan. I've been paying attention here…..

It is not unreasonable to dislike a team's coach while still being a fan of said team. However, by saying that what you hated was that if Bo (Nebraska) finished in the top 25 people would use that as a reason to retain him, you are perilously close to rooting against Nebraska. You cannot logically hope for failure by the head coach and success for the team at the same time. That is what put me over the edge.

Now you say that isn't what you meant, and that you don't want Bo or the team to lose. Fair enough. I apologize. I no doubt went too far…..

I understand the logic. I understand that 'if' makes it conditional. However, there is an implication in Pops statement that you choose to ignore.

Pops would prefer that Bo Pelini be fired. He's openly stated it…many times. That he would be "annoyed" had nothing to do with what Pops posted. That is a word that you have inserted, in order to make Pops statement appear less harsh. Very tricky. I actually kind of admire it. But Pops said he would hate it, a much stronger word. You have implied that what Pops meant by hate is that he would be annoyed. That is not what he posted at all. How can you know what he meant? Since he would hate it if a top 25 finish resulted in some fans wishing to retain coach Pelini, does it not imply that he would prefer that Nebraska not have a top 25 finish, in order that Pelini not be retained? If that isn't what Pops meant and he clarified it for me, I would certainly apologize for my outburst.

The reason that I've objected so vehemently to his statement is that I just can't fathom fans hoping for team failure in order to rid us of a coach that some fans don't like.

No worries...respect you and your opinion as I always have.
many times I have to explain what I mean because at my age the message sometimes gets lost in the distance between my brain and fingertips.
My point was we have fallen off out of the top 25, next year becoming a top 25 team again...would that be considered improvement or getting back to where they should always have been all along with a genius at the helm.

Bo may come and have this team play like never before. If that happens i become the dumbest looking poster on this site. I can live with that and the ribbings I will get. My skin is not so thin as to not to expect some blowback.

In the mean time...let hope for a victory tomorrow and let it generate into a fantastic 2014 year of Neb football.

all I ask is when that happens if it should...please no...yo momma jokes

I'll let it go at that. I've not been prone to such outbursts. The sometimes overbearing divisiveness displayed on this board got the better of me…..so against all logic, I plunged right into the middle of it.

Apparently the same thing happened to me. Peace.

I hear you. I also respect you and the opinions you express here. We could all use something positive tomorrow, like a well-played game and a year-ending victory.

Don't know about SoCalRed but mine is for 34 years we were Top 25 for 32 of those years! That's from 1963 to 1997!! BETTER coaching PRODUCES better results imo.......... The following years 1998 to 2012 we were Top 25 10 of those 14 years...... Certainly a step backwards but still pretty good wouldn't you agree? sooooooooooooooooooooooo in 48 years we finished in the top 25... 42 out of 48 years or aprox 83% of time........

So in reality we have mostly finished pretty in the TOP 25 over 48 years.... of course this year probably won't be one of them!!!

Therefore I have to agree with GFOA........

We should usually finish in the TOP 25 based on the previous 48 years............
What a surprise, you agree with G.

From 1966 through 1997 the Nebraska Cornhuskers had, arguably, one of the five greatest coaches in CFB history, and imo a true offensive genius. Then, for six years, we had one of his proteges who managed to take them to a top 25 ranking four of six years

That's 32 of the 42 seasons you mention. Apparently what we need is another Tom Osborne. Good luck with that.

The bottom line is that we have no reason to assume that the team should be in the rankings EVERY YEAR?!

The landscape of the game has changed. Geography and demographics matter more now than possibly anytime since the advent of athletic scholarships. I know it's hard to admit that to ourselves, but the failures of the past decade have made it perfectly clear that were fighting an uphill battle, and even a change of coaches isn't going to automatically change that.

Those lowered expectations fit you like a well worn suit.

Those lowered expectations fit you like a well worn suit.

They sure do........ just more excuses WHY we should lower our expectations! Sorry but I'm not buying it.......... I so enjoy these folks that give up at the first sign it's going to be tough to accomplish.

Quitters never win... and winners never quit!

To say a coaching change would not produce better results suggests someone has a working crystal ball or thinks they have all the answers. Fact is NO ONE knows for sure what a coaching change would do........... I'm not about to throw in the towel simply because it "MIGHT" be harder to accomplish today versus 15 or 20 years ago. If folks like SoCalRed wants to make excuses that's up to them..........

Those lowered expectations fit you like a well worn suit.
I can only assume you meant that as some sort of insult, however, my hopes for every season have remained fairly consistent since Bob Devaney was roaming the sidelines. Expectations either lead to bitter disappointment, or even higher expectations which eventually leads to bitter disappointment.

What I find almost comical about the fans who criticize the program is their insistence on being realistic about the coaching staff. If their "expectations" were actually based in reality they could possibly be honest about the program, instead of insisting on Conference championships and top fifteen rankings.

My hopes for the 2014 season are winning the division, winning the conference, and possibly a play-off berth. This is based on an experienced and improving Defense, and a healthier, more dynamic offense. It's also based on the fact that the 2014 roster has a greater breadth and depth of talent than any time since 1999.

But it's a funny game. The ball takes strange bounces, so, while I did think we could win the Division with a dynamic offense and a talented, if somewhat raw defense this year, what I did not expect was the loss of half our offensive starters this year. So, yeah, my expectations were lowered as the season progressed, as we proved that we were a team that could rise to the occasion, but which lacked the talent offensively to win the Division.

What I hope to see tomorrow is a defense which continues to grow, and an offense with a healthy Armstrong and OL, enough to avoid turnovers and outscore the Bulldogs.
