Bill Busch to be OFFICIALLY named ST Coordinator

I think it was unreasonable to expect the ST coach to be announced very early in this process, even if the decision to bring in Busch was likely made earlier. Frost said he wanted the OC to have input on the other offensive coaches, and presumably the structure of their roles. Even if he was 90% sure he wanted a full-time ST coordinator, the option was still there to structure things differently. Busch was already here, and already has a commitment to Nebraska. It would have been illogical to reduce your flexibility with the structure of the staff until you knew the other pieces with more certainty.

The delay certainly didn't prevent them from attracting two quality specialist transfers. There just isn't a downside to being patient with the process if you already have Busch in your pocket. I don't understand the need to jump to a nefarious explanation, other than to find a way to inject this announcement with unwarranted disappointment.
So a Busch in the hand is worth two birds in a bush? I follow that.

Beamer was great, but I think part of his success with ST was the fact that he was the head coach. The players had to take him very seriously in that role. It communicated a priority very clearly.

I think that’s why Frost needs to be involved in ST and show it’s a priority, even if he’s not directly coaching the details. I get the sense his first couple seasons ST was an afterthought. Hiring a full-time assistant is a good message. Jumping on recruiting good transfer players at specialty positions is a good message. We dont get enough detail from practice to know how accountable special teams players are, but that’s where his message needs to continue. Off-season signs are favorable, though.

Really appreciate your insights, @Cornjob. Very well-reasoned. You’re a great addition to this board!

It can be two things at once. I don't think Busch was the first choice. I also think he'll end up being a good hire if he's allowed to be.
man oh man, maybe they are smart and didn't want to pay Busch the money (LSU is still footing the bill-just like UN for riley when he went to OSU). Name him coach and then UN has to pay the big salary so that may be the strategy all along.

Cripes sake, not every decision is made out of some posters perceived Frost ineptitude

Why can't Busch be the first choice-man with his pedigree, desire to be in Nebraska, and the ability to recruit and teach. He's a man of detail, which many feel this team has needed.

So whether he was first last or whatever, I agree with you he's a good hire. So was Whipple. Hopefully this staff is around to continue the building process unlike what pedie did in 2003

Perceived ineptitude? Haha

No. Posts that cynical are all about the poster and not the topic. We both know that the same cohort would look at a 6 win season and say something negative, to address your example.

The Busch announcement is a good move and its good news about the program. But we have multiple posters here that are upset it wasn't announced earlier and imagining some fictional 'better' candidates that spurned Nebraska. Its not like we can't find legitimate things to be frustrated about with Nebraska football, but some folks have to create their own fictions to react to, to feed the cynicism when the news is a little too positive.

And there is a plethora of posters willing to chastise them at every turn.

Let's assume what you say is true, and Busch was the 3rd choice. If all three guys you are considering are similarly excellent choices, what's the reason for negativity if you get Busch?

This fanbase is mentally ill from the way the last few years have gone on top of the decade before that. You can see it when reading fan forums. Pre-emptive pessimism is a defense mechanism, but it sucks all the joy out of being a fan.

If you allow fan negativity to suck the joy out of being a fan then that is a you problem. Here is a simple solution, don't read the negative posts.
