Based on this post I am guessing that you are younger than 40 years old. I say that because they've only had the brief run under Pete Carroll in that timeline. But if you back up a decade or two, the longer view shows power and prestige that oozes out in such a way that you want to punch that frickin' Trojan mascot in the junk ... and his horse, too. USC isn't the equal of UCLA, Cal, or Stanford, but it's not a coincidence that Hollywood folks were paying bribes to get their kids into USC.

Some of that might be because the PAC rarely gets good time slots. They are on so late most of the National people don’t watch. I’m talking the whole PAC not just USC. As a conference they aren’t making the big money. That’s why I believe the bigger programs might split. Someone brought up travel but travel times are irrelevant nowadays.

I think that’s a pretty fair representation of how it might go if they try to keep the big 12 together at all. Except I think SMU has an exceptional chance to get in.

easiest is just add SMU and Houston…

Geographically and logically….at least to me.

That may play into a bunch of Texas politics that I am unaware of but it seems the easiest route for them

He doesn't have the tools or connections to make these sorts of moves, and that's why he's been assigned to the sidelines. It is a combination of the B1G's Expansion Committee, ADs, and Fox Sports executives that are driving this bus, right now.
