I'm going to predict Taylor's improvement if that's alright with everybody. I'm sure it will be. I know there are a few on here concerned with my rights to express myself. :p

Haha, you crack me up, Pops. This thread was to discuss Tmart having a breakout year. Not sure how you equate predicting improvement with saying "TM is the second coming of _____."

I'm going to predict improvement if that's alright with you. I'm sure it will be. I know how concerned you are with my rights to express myself. :p

i'm just having a conversation on here....
but maybe its statements like this
It is going to be so enjoyable to watch TM make all the fair weathered Husker fans look like complete idiots. You know who you are people.
that will get the hand claps and happy dance from ya.

I didnt compare him to Tebow you did...so my guess was/is you making the comparison came before mine did ...I left it blank...you filled it in.
Again only having a conversation you may say I crack you up..thats groovy. I can give you reason and I think I have as why I think like Oga said ...we have seen the peak/best of what TM has to offer. When a Qb has to go outside of the team to find help....That alone should tell you something.
If the team or better yet the coaches dont care why the hell should I.
TM showed by seeking out help he wants to improve, so the question now will have to be will the coaches allow him to....I think not.

peace

as long as you are ok with those that dont agree with you....so i'm going to predict, a year no better than last...I'm sure everyone is ok with that.

I'm not "degrading" our player(s). I don't subscribe to the idea he is a great, if even good QB. I think he is a great athlete, but I don't think he will deliver a Big 10 Championship now or ever. It's my opinion. I have said that I hope I am wrong, but my opinion stands. I respects those who think he will deliver this year. I just happen to disagree. I'm not calling him names or saying he sucks, just that I think he doesn't have the tools to be a "great" QB at this level.

Why am I here? To offer my opinion, just like you. Sorry FLAS, old buddy, but I just paid for 2 more years to post my opinion.

Also, I doubt TM would ever read a BBS or care what we have to say, so "running him down" is of zero consequence. But if TM picks up a paper, watches ESPN, turns on a radio, etc. he is bound to hear a lot worse than what I am saying on a BBS. He's not a "kid". He's a young man playing QB at NU and that carries a lot of responsibility. If he doesn't have the skin to take some barbs about his ability, he should go play safety at Chadron State.

they dont have skin there...weird

I am going to predict that he gets better but that certainly doesn't mean he will be great. I certainly hope he is great in 2012 but I wouldn't count on it.

That is a fair argument but Andrew luck and jake locker got outside coaching as well...is it ideal? No...is it sometimes necessary? Yes

I take some solace in that the coaches and some of the press that saw a few practices said that Martinez has improved markedly. It's a shame we didn't get to see that first quarter of the spring fling. Maybe the divisiveness of this conversation wouldn't be so prevalent.

The staff has wandered from one offense to another for over a decade now. Finally we see the same offense two consecutive years in a row with again the same coordinator. We haven't seen that since Solich. Callahan and his giant playbook was an experiment that just wouldn't work in the college game.

His successor watered it down and down and it was still difficult to mange due to rules and time constraints. Many talented quarterbacks that looked at the program saw the confusion and went other places. We seemed to end up with what was left on signing day too often.

Now we have the staff more complete and a familiar playbook. The staff young and still learning their functions. It may be a good idea to have a mature quarterback coach now. Maybe we have one? Maybe not. In the second season of this playbook the little things now can be addressed. Footwork, progressions, deceptive abilities and form. Maybe we have the coach. This will be a telling season.

This season should be a look into the quarterback problem. If Beck and the others can right the wrongs, then they evolve as teachers. If the same confusion occurs, then maybe we need that quarterback guru on staff for 2013. Beck was teaching the staff while he was teaching the players last season. The little things that should have been addressed had to be put on the back burner due to the time constraints of the NCAA. Transition seem to go that way.

When we have players and coaches with experience in recurring schemes then you have true mentors. Devaney and Osborne both never like playing underclassmen in leadership rolls. They broke them down of their flaws and built them back with good coaching. Pelini is learning to be a head coach. Beck is learning to be a coordinator. Osborne can relate and that is why he is patient with Bo. Eventually when the high school talent see continuity and stability they will again come in droves. Transitions have a way of stifling the process. Beck has to make strides this season. It all rolls down hill they say.

I find it a good thing that Martinez is striving to better himself off season. I find it a good thing that his outside coach is in sink with Beck. I find it a good thing that everyone who saw practices think Martinez is turning a corner. I think back to Frost who many said would never win a conference title after his first season. He did much, much more than that. He came into his big season with a giant chip on his shoulder. If Martinez can channel that aggression as did Frost when the fans belittled him and his throwing motion, then just maybe we have something. Time will indeed tell for him and his coach this year.

Actually, the pressure from the internet and national media may have caused the coaches to re-think last year's position of "we don't care how he get the ball there." This year, evidently, they decided to earn their pay and coach him (although I heard it was a California coach that TM hired to coach him this summer that helped with the foot work....not sure if that is true or not).

I doubt the INTERNET & national media were the main cause of this, I think it has more to do with the fact that they didn't get the results they desired by the end of the season. If this staff is depending on the internet and national media to give them direction on how to run the program then I'll join your movement with saying "fire Bo"..

yes it was Steve Calhoun, Keith Price from the WAC and Cody Fajardo of nevada....would be nice to see some effort from the team to show they may be concerned...then they may not be and they are buying into what they are also reading that most QBs breakout year is either the 3rd or 4th year in the same system

What good would showing that they are concerned do? I mean really? And I'm not sure how "they are buying into what they are reading" because it's their quotes that our media is reporting.

Yep, you are right. Doesn't look like our coaching staff was involved at all...this was an intiative that others took and TM bought into. Good for him, get the coaching you need where ever you can find it.

http://www.omaha.com/article/20120326/BIGRED/703269874

The staff had nothing to do with their own QB seeking a specialist to give him further development. Even though it's quoted in the article that you posted that Calhoun first heard about Martinez from Ron Brown.

So you think Keller, Taylor and Ganz were great QB's? Really?

THey would give our current husker offense MANY more weapons to worry about . We would have a LEGIT
throwing threat at ANY time. THis would help our running game even more, and our lineman would look AA> YES

+1

What's the need of having a play maker who can only make plays when he is 100% in health, facing a defense that's ranked in the bottom half of the country, & not many know about his weaknesses. Can we really consider him a play maker?

As someone mention already in this thread, we would love to think that Martinez will be a great QB and/or make a huge step next season but we have seen nothing from him that garuantees that will happen.
