2023 Nebraska Spring Game Thread (4/22/23): Coach Rhule, Players available after scrimmage

Team performance wise we have a long way to go to get to a winning season. May not happen in 2023, sadly. I keep thinking of HCMR first seasons at Temple and Baylor where he went 2-10 and 1-11 building his program. I think he can get us back to winning seasons, (I thot that with Frost too), but it could be a couple years before we see it. But It would be improvement if HCMR and staff can pull off a 6-6 W-L.

Maverick Noonan looked good too. Both guys are fast. This D will be a terror in 2 years. Foundation being laid.

Yeah he is long and quick too and has the potential along with Lenhardt to give us three very good guys in the edge

They all played yesterday like they had been there before

With that being said they are all very young but the ceiling appears to be high

Lot of work to do for the team as a whole between now and the MN game

Weakest group looks to be WR, minus Kemp. Ugh.

Defense looks decent. I like the attacking style. I think we'll be ok on defense.

Sims/Casey will be a great duo. RB will be good as well.

Can we find guys for the OL?
There are some real speedsters coming in the fall... they won't be the most sophisticated route runners, but they are the guys you can say "go deep" and they will attract a fair bit of attention. Maybe that opens things up for Kemp and such.

I don't think the walk-ons see the field as much in the fall... Elliot Brown and Taveon Thompson are good depth but wouldn't expect to see them in conference games. Ty Hahn sounds like he might continue to see the field, especially early season.

I am thinking we saw a very small subset of what was going on. I am thinking the defense is far ahead of the offense.

But will Thompson stay if Sims starts? And vice versa?

Our defense looked really good imo and obviously ahead of the offense. Lets remember that there’s usually a big difference between your starting QB and the backups. What would the offense have really looked like had Sims played the entire game? I honestly think to many are jumping to conclusions based on an extremely small window using dozens of players that will not be starters. Before I start taking about a losing season I’m going to sit back and watch how things play out after the first 3 games. GBR
