Faking Injuries

Exactly. No way to truly enforce this. Players get stingers all the time, cramps, all sorts of things that might cause you to go down for a play or two.
Intent doesn’t matter. If you’re injured enough to stop play then the repercussion is you have to sit out. Stingers, cramps, all sorts of things is enough to require some down time. If it turns out to be longer than needed he can thank the plethora of coaches and athletes who abused the rule (** cough Indiana cough **).

Exactly too many coaches are abusing this. In todays game where up tempo offenses are the norm it is abuse of the rules.

After the 2019 Indiana game I so wanted this to happen but I'd hate to see a guy mask an injury so he can stay in the game then exacerbate his injury on a subsequent play.

It was discussed a while ago. My thoughts were. 1st time you go down with an injury that stops action. You are out for that series. If you go down a second time a you are out for 15 minutes of clock time. go down a 3rd you are done for the game
Ridiculous. There are so many things that can cause a player to go down. Oftentimes, it’s something simple that just hurt for a minute or two. Shouldn’t matter if a player gets cramps, the wind knocked out of him, or slightly twists an ankle. Shouldn’t be penalized for going down 1 time, or 6 or 7 times. This just further ruins what once was a great game. God, we live in such a weak society anymore.

If you lose a game because of someone faking an injury, you probably suck anyway and don’t deserve to win. Someone slowing the tempo on purpose shouldn’t cause you to lose a game. Absolutely silly.

I agree here. If you go down and the refs need to stop play so you can get up and get off the field, you are off for the rest of the series. If you actually have a stinger or cramp up you are likely out the rest of that series anyway.

20 years ago everyone huddled up after every play - there was no need to dive. You want a sign of weakness? The defense is saying they can't handle the pressure the offense is applying so they exploit a loophole to get a break; that's a sign of weakness.

Nothing wrong with closing a loophole.

Sure what you are saying but you’re ok with faking an injury?

Amen brother

Coaches will just put in third stringers to fake the injury. There is always another loophole.
You think that strategy might just be a tad obvious to even visually impaired officials and coaches?

Doesn't matter if it is faked. You make the rule so that if any player has to to be attended to on the field, they are out for a certain amount of plays, or a certain amount of time. If the player is truly injured they will have time to fully recover before returning to play. If they are faking it, the coach will have time to consider whether or not it was worth the temporary loss of that player.
They already have that rule.
