No football

I would take any games ..... would you be happy with 7?, how bout 6, 5?, man I would be thrilled with as few as 4. Cause we would still be practicing, getting reps (granted some may not be against competition In the case of cancellations) but reps nevertheless, AND COACHING!!! the offensive players have only been coached up by the coordinator for two spring practices and whatever they have been allowed since late July.

At the end of the day, I think this is the big thing. Let's give our guys a chance to develop. This season will have an asterisk no matter what happens and no one loses eligibility. Practice and games provide the opportunity to develop. We aren't likely to lose a ton of guys to the draft (maybe Jaimes and Mills?). This is a "Ground Hog Day" season of sorts so get what you can out of it and keep expectations for how many games we play and how many we win in check.

My one question - why would the Big 10 want this to fail? Save face, sure. But they also realize that playing is the only way the programs can receive tens of millions of dollars in revenue. Are the controls strict? Yes - but they do not want this to fail.

Because Warren said: "We will not be revisiting this decision."

Since he has been forced against his will to do just that, he and the powers that be have come up with a way to win by using rules that "allow play this fall" in manner that almost guarantee that play will not be able to happen.

Yes, DONU will be able to do its part, likely with great success in avoiding Covid because they have so far, but the other 13 schools in the BiG that re required to do the same if the season is to happen have not shown the same success, certainly with less rigorous guidelines than Herr Warren has set out!

So this is all about ego and control.

Got to get out of this conference.........

GBR

My first thought after reading this was this was an advantage for us. With the walk on program, easy to manipulate the roster. If you are a walk on and get Covid, you are off the team until winter conditioning. If you have a schollie and get Covid, no worries, have 75 walk ons to keep the % down. Ok great, so WE can play but what if our opponent can’t?

This seems likely to keep the number of games down. We’ll be lucky to get 6 in.
You can't take a person out of the system after testing positive and act like he was never there. It will still go against your total percentage

Completely agree with this. We've seen what not playing has done to recruiting and trying to retain players. If you look at the big picture, playing is always better than sitting. And I believe Scott will have them ready to go this year. GBR!

So here is the scenario. Any player who tests positive automatically misses 3 games and most likely 4 because during that three weeks he isn't allowed to practice and most likely not utilize any training facilities due to being quarantined. He will not be game ready the next week. Since most college football team out breaks have involved double digit positives that means the entire team is out for the four weeks. If you have 160 players, coaches and staff and you get 8 positives....even if they are trainers or coaches.....the other 152 people have to stop practicing and playing. We could literally be canceling 4 weeks of football because 8 people with no symptoms tested positive.

Now even if most of the programs can stay healthy even a few that go down will have a doubling effect. I doubt they put any allowances into the schedule that allow a changes such as...........the Nebraska/Maryland gets canceled due to Maryland being over while Northwestern and Iowa were also canceled due to Northwestern being over and no way of rescheduling Nebraska to play iowa that week. So essentially any team that has to cancel will likely mean two teams not playing that week.

Just gotta see what happens. It does no good to imagine scenarios and debate outcomes. This is where we are and what we get. The alternative was not popular here either.

What was concerning to me is that the press release from NU regarding fans said "no fans, HOPEFULLY for this year only"...um, wut?

You are right that it doesn't really do any good for us to speculate. I'm concerned that either the committee didn't speculate or even worse......that they did this intentionally.

But the bars in the Haymarket should be good to go, right? No fans means they can watch there, correct?

That’s what I mean. For the BIG championship game I bet they use the CFP rankings to decide who plays. No divisions.
Perhaps. However you'd have a lot of extremely PO'd Husker fans if we won the division and then didn't play in the CCG. So a arbitrary ranking system would determine who plays for the Big 10 championship? That seems to be very strange way to pick our teams for our CCG imo. On the other hand this season is like no season in football history.

You heard it here first. They are setting it up for failure with all the restrictions. 3 week quarantine instead of 2 weeks. Requirements that if over 5% test positive the whole team shuts down. Testing doesn't start right away with hopes of starting the clock on the positives. They are waiting till 3 weeks before so that the players on the backside have a full 3 more weeks. They do not want this to happen.
Zero fans?? Isn't that up to the local authorities in each city or state? I agree completely with you. The B1G fails again.

In the pressor Green and Moos both said they wanted that decision to rest with local health authorities. However they were overruled in that the BIG decided they would only allow player relatives and people needed to put the games on. It sounded like it was going to be that way or the highway. Hence ZERO fans which is unfortunate because things are changing weekly with covid.
