That third down stat caught my eye, too HIO. Ugly.

To say UCLA's offensive and defensive coordinators had our number is an understatement.

Funny thing though, I don't think we struggled because of the third down issues. I actually think it was the other way around. Our third down issues were because we were struggling so much. If that makes any sense.

Individual Defensive Stats

Compton 12 tackles; 1 sack (3 yds); 1 TFL (3 yds)
Smith 8 tackles; 1 BrUp
Stafford 8 tackles; 1 FR; 2 BrUp
Meredith 8 tackles; 1 sack (1 yd), 1 TFL (1 yd)
Green 7 tackles; 1 sack (9 yds); 1 TFL (9 yds)
Evans 5 tackles; 2 BrUp
Jean-Baptiste 4 tackles; 1 BrUp
Ankrah 4 tackles; 1 TFL (3 yds); 1 FF
Randle 4 tackles
Carter 3 tackles; 1 TFL (1 yd)
Whaley 3 tackles
Cooper 3 tackles
Mitchell* 2 tackles; 2 BrUp
H.Jackson, E. Martin**, Rome, Steinkuhler, Stoddard, S.Long, Marrow, Z.Anderson, K.Williams all with 1 tackle apiece.

*Josh Mitchell's stats incorrectly given to Brandon Chapek due to a number mixup. I doubt this will ever be corrected. Our walkon OL Chapek will forever get credit for 2 tackles and 2 pass breakups. What a versitile guy!
**Eric Martin not given credit for the QBH when he knocked the UCLA QB down forcing him to throw the ball away.

There are a number of other stats that I scratched my head on. The home team is responsible for official stats. I can tell you from professional experience UCLA needs some help here.

The contradictory stats are puzzling. I've seen their running back credited with everything between 162 and 227 yards.

It does. Typically, when you are being successful on 3rd down, it means that you are probably also having some success on the first two downs. We were abysmal on 1st down most of the game.

Our two starting D tackles finish the game with 1 tackle each.... Wow.

Three weeks until Wisconsin, so if personnel changes are to be made then this is the week. I agree that the CB's did a good job but Stafford is really struggling with his tackling and Smith is simply average. I'd like to see more of Jackson and Cooper. I'd also like to see new faces at LB and along the DL. It might be time to give Curry, Valentine, McMullen, Moss, Anderson, and Rose some PT because the seniors on the DL and at LB sure as hell aren't getting it done.
