Ergo, I like the uniforms. Impaler might be able to agree with me here (having lived in Oregon), but alternate uniforms are a BIG DEAL to student athletes. A BIG DEAL. And the simple fact is, Nebraska has been woefully slow to adopt any changes. Even the throwback "300" uniform caused a major stir within the fan base. I'm not saying that we need to go Full-Oregon with wonky color schemes and Darth Vader costumes, but by the same measure we can't afford to look stodgy. Nebraska has tightly held onto a tradition of excellence and that's permeated all the way down to the uniforms, the atmosphere and the fans. It always stays the same.

The problem is that Nebraska has not been nationally relevant for a while. And to kids growing up, we're no longer the traditional football powerhouse with classic uniforms, we are the outdated once-upon-a-time that is still clinging to the same duds we sported in 1980. Today's 20 year olds were 5 the last time Nebraska won a national title. And they hadn't even reached middle school when we last reached a BCS Bowl.

You read that right. Taylor Martinez and Rex Burkhead were learning to write in cursive when Nebraska was getting slobberknocked by Miami in 2001.

I love our uniforms - dearly. But we must be able to convey that Nebraska is a great school to attend. We already fight enough recruiting disadvantages, we don't need an old-timer mindset to deprive us of another. These alternates - whether you like the style or not - at least convey that Nebraska isn't afraid to mix it up. We're able to maintain our traditions and still be modern and fun. The fact is, I'm tired of being behind the times compared to Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Stanford, USC and more. Kids like to look flashy and the last time I checked they were the ones actually suiting up.

Exactly! And I would venture to guess that there was some player input into this design, so keep that in mind as you rip on it.

It always cracks me up how so many have problems with the monochrome look calling them pj's etc but love all white. Somehow this doesn't look like pj's?

+1000000000000000000000000000000

Some fans love to give themselves titles (traditionalists) so that they have a reason for sounding silly at times. Anyone who looks down on our field in on that Saturday and mistakes us for Texas Tech has a mental issue that I'm not qualified to diagnose so I'll just call them retarded. I'm a DIEHARD Steelers fan, have love them since I was able to understand the game as a child and never once did I find myself cheering hard for Iowa because I thought they were my team.

Fashion is a cycle. It's impossible to come up with a concept that hasn't already been used at some point in time by someone. We can make comparisons to any team, but it comes down to, it's just a uniform design. When Addidas comes out and says "we took a hard look at the TTU uniforms to gain a few concepts" then I'll apologize for my unprofessional assessment but til then, some posters need to get with the times. You can not like the design, or color scheme, nothing wrong with that but basing you opinion because we may "look like" some other program is just silly.

IMO, I can dig the new uniform. I wouldn't mind seeing a black belt so the uniform so the uniform doesn't look like it snaps between the legs, maybe all black socks, but I like the design. Plus I spoke with a couple players yesterday, one of which is our playmaker at WR, and they like the uniform and wouldn't mind wearing it more than once a season. I believe, Michigan wore their alternate unis 3 times last season as well as Notre Dame.

It's very costly to make uniforms for a roster of 100+ players, even though most won't play in the game or even make a name for themselves on the field. To wear a uniform once and then "burn them" as a poster said earlier in this thread, is a waste of money. I would hope that the institute we support so strongly would have more sense and money management skills.

Well I agree that the Oregonians love their (non)uniforms but they never really had any tradition until Belotti got there so....

If the student athletes care this much about it then this is a nice compromise, a one time a year thing. Would be nice to see somewhat of a different design from year to year. And for the love of God, LEAVE BLACK OUT!
