I made my first visit to Berlin in 1962 shortly after the wall went up. It was not lost on me as an 11 year old that there was a stark difference between the freedom on this side and the “other side” that needed a wall topped with barbed wire augmented with armed guards to keep its people in. In subsequent years as an active duty officer I made many more trips to Berlin but the feeling was always the same - I felt very privileged to be on this side of the wall. My wish, then and now, is that those who denigrate our country would spend some time in the socialist paradise of their choosing to contrast with the incredible freedoms and opportunities that we take for granted in the USA. Happy 4th to all.
