Football facilities announcement

Honestly I know everyone is doing it and if we don't do something blah blah blah, but I just have a hard time thinking that we need something that costs $155 million dollars. But if they can find the money than so be it. No doubt it will be a fine structure.

Clearly a bit rushed because of gameday but overall at least we have an outline and time frame now. Can't wait for some more details over the next off season.

I served on the school board of a large school district in Houston area for 9 years. Doesn’t surprise me at all. People don’t realize what quality costs in facility construction. And it keeps going up. Big lesson I learned over & over again, BUILD IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!! It’s the long range cost of shortcuts that will kill you. I could give you so many examples but would bore you to death. They really need this facility so do it right the first time. Won’t regret it.

Absolutely understand and you are right, if you do it do it right the first time. My comments I guess were more along the lines of it would be nice to donate, say 75 million to the education endowment to kids maybe don't have to have such big loans when they graduate.

I am on the local school board and we are looking at finishing off a bond and then starting a new one without skipping a beat. And what we are looking at dollar wise seems like a lot but really doesn't get a lot. I guess though that is the difference between tax dollars and donated dollars.

So what happens to the existing, $50 mil+ (in '06 $) North Stadium facilities that are barely over a decade old? How will they be used once this expansion project is complete?

Also, has any other university ever done two such major upgrades in such a short time? This looks to be maybe an unprecedented escalation of the facilities arms race when, after just 13 years, a multi-million $ improvement effort is superseded by another that duplicates many of its functions.
