If Roby comes in and puts in the effort on the defensive side of the ball, I don't see how the coaches could keep him off the court. Even if Miles lands Jordy and a grad transfer or JUCO big, at what point would you still go small and slide Roby in Shavon's old role? Perhaps Andrew would have to slide down and defend the post while Roby defended the wing. Or maybe he just swallows all of McVeigh's minutes and then some. All I know is that we are going to have to find a way to get the kid on the court.
While we do need a freshman center who can come in our program and begin to develop, I think Miles needs to also go find the best rim defender he can find. An athletic defender who is eligible immediately. I don't care if he's not capable of scoring anything other than an occasional put-back. We're probably not going to find an offense-capable big at this point. Think a slightly longer (and healthy) Chris Balham.
