The ACC is the new Big East

This move also could shore up the Big 12's shaky position and further incent teams like Texas and Oklahoma to remain in the league. Truthfully, a geographically strung out Big 12 (with FSU and WVU) doesn't make a lot of traditional sense, but they appear to be stockpiling decent teams.

IMO, Florida State is not quite as accomplished as Nebraska, but they're a pretty darn good replacement. WVU and TCU more than make up for Mizzou and TAMU as well. And nobody cared about Colorado anyway.

Are they sending their champions or the highest ranked team not involved in a national championship game(s)?

The champions of the Big 12 and SEC conferences will meet in a New Year's Day bowl game annually beginning with the 2014 season, the conferences said Friday in a news release.
The five-year agreement calls for the champions of each conference to be in the matchup "unless one or both are selected to play in the new four-team model to determine the national championship," the statement said.
"Should that occur, another deserving team from the conference(s) would be selected for the game," the release said.

I'm not sure how this really invalidates the ACC. In moving to a 4 team playoff, it's conceivable that the runnerups in the PAC, the B12, the SEC, and the B1G could be playing in these two bowl games if the 4 champions all qualify for the semifinals.

It is going to be interesting to see if the Sugar and Rose become the NC semi final games. If that's what happens, the four conferences should see a number of teams seeking membership in their conferences. Like Miami, Florida St., Notre Dame, and some others I can't think of ....

Looks like the new leadership in the Big XII is taking the bull by the horns and being proactive rather than reactive.

Wish that was the case when we were there.

This is an interesting development. It's good to see the Big 12 have some good leadership at the top now, but I'm still glad NU got out of the conference.
