Any Progress from the Offensive Line?

I'm not an O line expert by any means, but could he possibly be moved to guard?
totally agree with this move. He is mobile and fluid in his movement. Could be effective as a guard although a bit undersized.

what he clearly can't seem to do after a year is consistently snap the ball. there is no reason to believe he will tomorrow either

I think its the numbers game in the box. There's no need to respect the passing game, so stack the box.

that being said, Frost has GOT to do SOMETHING to get this team playing more sound, fundamental football.
This. On both accounts. If LM's arm is really this weak and there's no one to stretch the field, they stack the box for the run and lie in wait for the crossing patterns. Our O-line is getting handled too often. One botched assignment can kill a drive. One dropped snap, one brain fart penalty....drive killers. Its gotten so common its almost who we are right now.

I don't think there's any questioning that he mauls people. But if he can't snap the ball well, I think that's a bit of an issue if you want to play center.
I know they wanted to give him time, and I do think he has enormous upside, and maybe not having to snap the ball turns him into a different player all together. Having Piper and Jurgens as your pulling guards is an intriguing thought. Problem is, we have zero depth (obviously) at center if in fact we have to move our starting guard. @N2FL was spot on with his assessment many months ago when he said we should have brought in a player to compete at that position. Now we are kind of screwed.

I rewatched the game. Literally the qb has very little time to throw the ball with out scrambling .

On running plays there are crease's. The RB are running into piles. Yes , you're taught to follow blocks but I saw 6 plays where as there where huge crease's to the right or left yet the running back ran into a pile of humanity. My wife who doesn't even know football , a casual fan even pointed this out.

I thought Jurgens was supposed to have improved after last years Colorado game. I don't see it.

Seems like his snaps have been no better, and often the QB has to jump to get it and it throws the timing of the play off. If his foot or ankle is bothering him, someone healthy should be there instead.

If he is healthy, and the staff thinks he is one of the best blockers they have, please move him over. There must be someone who can make reliable snaps and handle the blocking, too.

This team has a lot of issues, but offensively, it starts with the snaps.

I still think Jurgens is our best lineman, I constantly see him making his block and getting to the next level..... but he's gotta get those snaps under control though. It's priority #1.
Go back and watch the snaps. Were they really bad or was Luke just not watching them in. To me it looks like Luke’s mind is elsewhere.

i don't think Jurgens is as bad with his snaps as he used to, but there is definite room for improvement. I don't recall any bad snaps after they put Farniok at center, but I am not going back to watch that dumpster fire to confirm.

I agree the offensive line play hasn't been great. Perhaps a little better than last year, but not by much. I thought our QB had more time to throw the ball yesterday than in previous games, but he still couldn't hit his receivers on any deep throws. I think that is the result of LM's weak arm and not because of failures on the offensive line. We didn't run the ball well, but part of that is because on first downs the Illinois safeties were often 8-9 yards off the line of scrimmage. They were just daring us to throw deep and we couldn't do it.
Maybe I watched a different game because that pass blocking was horrid.
Ethan Piper looked out of sorts and couldn't anchor. Got pushed back. Bo Wilson looked out of place on the right. I definitely see why Farniok was moved to interior. Piper can do some nice things pulling quick etc., but pass pro got lit up.

Every single pass attempt the pocket collapsed different. Makes it very difficult when 1 sec after snap the QB is already having to move to clean part of pocket and can't set feet for rhythm throws.

We saw the results. TEs wide open. WRs wide open.

Not sure it wouldn't be bad to keep Matt Farniok at center and get the jitters out at RG to go get some pancakes. Left guard if Turner Corcoran or xyz improves the line you play them.

Going back to the rear of the Pelini/Riley days how many quality players have we had get hurt, or not develop. Especially 3rd, 4th, 5th year guys that we were really depending on.

Seems to have been compounded by recruiting class number imbalances.

How many all conference or AA student athletes have we been in the top 3 in and haven't got the bounce. The monster right tackle that PJF pulled in.

We finally have a strength program back to a decent and improving spot. But a lot of these walk-ons need 3 years or even 4 to be a consistent high level contributor.

We finally have some talent at the skill positions but we got to give 2AM and LM time. And we also have to do more blowing people off the LOS when running. In any case our QBs only getting clean looks after scrambling is going to be a work in progress developing WRs and QB to sync when to break routes etc.

Keep a clean pocket for another half second and the success will go up exponentially. We couldn't go 1.5 secs for a ton of plays. I might go back and count.
