Congratulation to former Huskers Jordan Burroughs and James Green, who both won gold medals in their respective weight classes at the Grand Prix of Spain.

Both Burroughs and Green will now compete at the World Wrestling Championships, Aug. 21-26 in Paris, France.

Burroughs dominated the 74 kg/163 lbs. weight class, as he did not allow a point in four 10-0 technical falls. The 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist took down three-time Grand Prix of Spain champion Taimuraz Friev of Spain, Nurgaliy Zholayev of Kazakhstan and Seyedali Mousavi of Iran before defeating Jevon Balfour of Canada in the final to win the gold.

Green won the 70 kg/154 lbs. gold medal. He began the day with a 12-2 win over Andruse Aimar of Estonia before pinning Azamat Nurykau of Belarus in the semifinals in 2:04. Green then won 11-0 over Zsombor Gulyas of Hungary to grab the gold.

Wow, mens freestyle was amazing. Borroughs eith a late takedown to win gold, Green takes Silver, and Snyder down a point with under a minute not only gets a takedown to win gold, but also earns the USA their first Freestyle World Championship since 1998. Snyder beat Russian wrestler Sudalaev who had not lost since the age old 17, the 21yr old had been mentioned as one of the pound for pound best and he stepped up class to take on Snyder who has also been a phenom

Some great matches!
Sudalaev and Snyder were both '16 Olympic champs.
A gold and a silver for the former Huskers, good to see Borroughs bounce back after disappointing Rio showing.

“Over the two day tournament, the United States won six medals. Claiming a silver medal was Thomas Gilman (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC/Hawkeye WC) at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. and winning bronze medals were medalist J’den Cox (Titan Mercury WC/Missouri WF) at 86 kg/189 lbs. and Nick Gwiazdowski (Raleigh, N.C./Titan Mercury WC/Wolfpack WC) at 125 kg/275 lbs.

The last time the USA had six World medals in freestyle at the World Championships was in 1995 in Atlanta, Ga. with World champions Terry Brands, Kevin Jackson, Kurt Angle and Bruce Baumgartner, and bronzes by Zeke Jones and Melvin Douglas. The USA won the team title that year.

The USA has won two previous World Team titles in men’s freestyle, won in 1993 in Toronto, Canada and in 1995 in Atlanta, Ga. The USA also has a Women’s World Team title in 1999 and a Greco-Roman World Team title in 2007."
