The new Huskers' athletic director is reversing course from Trev Alberts. His working more with the 1890 initiative should help Nebraska football compete.

I am as big of a Husker fan as anyone. But I am not contributing because I don't want to be part of the demise of college football.
Keep in mind these donations to 1890 basically represent “seed” money. The coalition doesn’t just raise money from donors to give away free. They also connect businesses and organizations that want to utilize players NIL. They then off set those deals.
Here is an example. Player A is offered a NIL deal worth 50K a year. The coalition has pretty much guaranteed that 50K using money in their coffers. But then they look for opportunities for businesses to sign contracts with players that off set the cost.
So player A than signs a deal with Runza for 25K. That money offsets half of the coalitions responsibility. Now if they negotiate another deal for 50k they are now plus 25. The coalition than takes a portion of that as a finders fee.
So realistically the power of the coalition is to not only have their seed money…..but to connect players with sponsors. The player still signs with the sponsor and does not act as a middle man but it offsets their responsibility to the NIL agreement.

If the profit sharing truly becomes a part of college fb as Trev predicts - then does 1890 become less important? Probably not, but it should. There should be a way to share profits based on merit, not be remunerated as a prospect.
