wasn't the ace a singleback and two tights and two wides?I believe we called it the Ace formation under Osborne, right?
Yep.

One thing that wasn't really noted with Rex back in the game was the ability of NU to run the diamond formation. I love this formation as it has all three weapons (Ameer, Rex, and Heard) on the field at the same time. We ran it twice in the second half, both for big gains (one called back by penalty). The big off-tackle run by Heard down to the Iowa 6 was set up by beautiful blocks by both Rex and Ameer.
This will be yet another wrinkle Wisconsin has to prepare for.
Yes, we definitely need to employ this formation much more than it's been run. I'm a little disappointed in how we've been so limited in play calling. There are many more formations and running plays than the half dozen we seem to be stuck with.
I've been thrilled with Beck's play calling this year. Completely thrilled. He does all the things you want an OC to do, exploits what the defense is vulnerable to, switches tempos depending on the game situation, sticks with a hot hand, and never loses sight of the goal of wearing the defense down for the fourth quarter.
I agree with this assessment. I have no complaints with Beck, other than he's had some growing pains as he learns his role.
One of the coaches- maybe Bo or Beck- said the Bone is more of a changeup formation and not something you would run a lot. They may have even said why, but I don't remember nor can I recall where I read that (I read too much Husker stuff).
um no they won't I will bet that we won't see the 3 back formation at all in the CCG. We use the diamond and that full house formation sparingly even though its been one of our best formations the past two years.
IIRC it was in the Big Red Breakfast report we got from when Barney was the coach attending but could be incorrect.
Q. Is the diamond formation something we’re going to see more of this year? It’s a game-plan thing. Certain defenses take it away it more than others. We call it the “bone†formation, you guys call it the diamond. It’s always in our package. Thanks again for your support! Being from Omaha, it’s always great for me to be here. Be excited for our guys on Saturday, too – we need your support. Thank you!
