Senior-level bouts unfolded on Sunday night in Chicago.

"By almost all accounts Rumble on the Rooftop, a series of matches held on a Chicago rooftop and wrestling's first public event since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. in March, was a success with regard to the matches and the sport. But that's not the full story.

The event was also being watched closely as an example of how wrestling could return while keeping athletes, coaches, fans and staff safe from coronavirus transmission. In that regard, even Bryan Medlin, the head coach of the Illinois Regional Training Center and a key player in organizing the wrestling component of the event, admitted there were problems. "

Burroughs and Berger win matches!
160 lbs. – Tyler Berger df. Sammy Sasso, 8-2
185 lbs. – Jordan Burroughs df. Zahid Valencia, 8-5

"The two went head-to-head at a catchweight,185 pounds. Burroughs normally competes at 74 kg/163 pounds, while Valencia competes at 86 kg/189 pounds.

Valencia, a 2017 Junior World silver medalist and two-time NCAA champion for Arizona State, drew first blood in the match against five-time World and Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs, with a duck under for a takedown in the first minute. Shortly after, Valencia extended his lead with another takedown for a 4-0 advantage at the break.

In the second period, Burroughs began his comeback bid with an early go-behind for a takedown. Valencia tacked on a step out but that would be all the Sun Devil would score."

"At 160 pounds, NCAA finalist Tyler Berger, who is one of Burroughs’ primary training partners, showed out against Ohio State wrestler Sammy Sasso. Berger controlled the bout, picking up four takedowns to Sasso’s one that gave him an 8-2 victory. "

Taylor beats JB, 4-4 on criteria!

TIEBREAKER CRITERIA:
  • Value of holds – The wrestler who scored the highest point value move. For example, if one wrestler hit a five point move and the other wrestler’s highest value move was only three points, then the wrestler with the five point move would win the tiebreaker.
  • Least number of cautions
  • Last point scored.
  • In the event that a match ends zero to zero and both wrestlers have one of the wrestlers would be put on the shot clock during the final minute of each period. Even if a wrestler doesn’t score in the 30 second shot clock, a caution and 1 point would be the result. Therefore, at worst a match could end 1-1. If this occurs, the wrestler who scored the last point from the expiration of the 30 second shot clock would be the winner.
