Ninth-ranked Michigan hit 12 3-pointers and shot better than 55 percent Thursday night to hand the Husker men’s basketball team its worst loss of the season, 82-53, at the Crisler Center.

The Wolverines made 55.6 percent of their shots and were 12-of-22 from beyond the arc to improve to 25-5 and move to one-half game out of first place in the Big Ten standings with a 14-4 record in conference play. Jon Teske led a quartet of Wolverines in double figures with a game-high 22 points while collecting 10 rebounds to post a double-double. Isaiah Livers also produced a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Ignas Brazdeikis added 22 points, Colin Scastleton scored 11 points and Zavier Simpson dished out 10 assists.

Nebraska shot just 34.3 percent, was 2-of-12 from the 3-point line and just 5-of-9 from the free-throw line. The bright spot was the play of the Husker bench, which produced 21 points, two shy of matching Nebraska’s largest bench production in Big Ten play.

Nana Akenten led Nebraska with 11 points, his first game in double figures since Nov. 19 and his career high for a Big Ten game. Amir Harris added eight points, with the freshman setting his career high in points for the second straight game. Glynn Watson Jr. paced the Husker starters with 10 points.

The loss dropped Nebraska to 15-14 overall and 5-13 in Big Ten play, with 10 of the Huskers’ 14 losses coming to teams who have ranked in the top 15 at some point this season.

The Huskers battled Purdue for 40 minutes before falling 75-72 on Saturday.
Glynn Watson Jr. had a season-high 25 points, including five 3-pointers, while James Palmer Jr. had 15 points and a season-high eight assists. Nebraska held Purdue to 38 percent shooting, but the Boilermakers had a 49-30 advantage on the glass and hit 23 of 26 from the foul line to escape Lincoln with a three-point win.

SCOUTING MICHIGAN
Michigan comes into Thursday's contest with a 24-4 record and sits in third place in the Big Ten race with a 13-4 mark. Michigan was 17-0 until falling at Wisconsin on Jan. 19. Michigan lost road games at Iowa and at Penn State before Michigan State ended the Wolverines' 22-game home win streak on Sunday.

Michigan relies on its balance with three players in double figures and two others averaging at least nine points per game. Freshman Ignas Brazdeikis leads the Wolverines in scoring at 14.4 points per game and is second in rebounding at 5.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore Jordan Poole (13.2 ppg) and senior Charles Matthews (12.8 ppg) are the other Michigan players in double figures, while junior point guard Zavier Simpson is averaging 9.3 points per game and is second in the Big Ten in assists per game (6.0). Junior Jon Teske leads Michigan in rebounding (5.6 rpg) and blocked shots (2.3 bpg).

Defense has been the Wolverines specialty this season, as Michigan is fourth nationally in scoring defense (58.4 ppg) and in the top-25 nationally in field goal defense (.400) and 3-point percentage defense (.298).

So is this game or the Mich State Game the road game that we win that we really have no business winning this year?

Before the season started, I thought these were the two games that would put us as the favorite to win the big ten tournament. :Bananalazy:

Afraid this is wrong time to play Michigan coming off a loss to State! Plus the fact we embarrassed them last year in Lincoln

That wasn't a bunny miss by borchardt, Kent! He had two Mich defenders draped all over him. ;)
