Nebraska (6-7, 1-1 Big Ten) comes off a solid defensive performance in a 73-52 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Dec. 29. In that game, the Huskers held the Islanders to 32 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers which led to 24 Husker points. Nebraska used a 22-4 first-half run to take control and put the game away in the second half with an 11-0 spurt after the visitors pulled within 10 points.

Senior guard Haanif Cheatham paced four Huskers in double figures with 17 points, including 8-of-9 shooting from the foul line, while freshman Yvan Ouedraogo added 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for his first career double-double. Cheatham leads the Huskers in scoring at 13.1 points per game while shooting 53 percent from the field. Ouedraogo is pulling down a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game, including 9.5 per game over the Huskers' last four contests.

SCOUTING RUTGERS
Series History: Friday's matchup will be the 13th all-time meeting with the Scarlet Knights. Nebraska leads the all-time series 8-4 and has won seven of the nine meetings since Rutgers joined the Big Ten.

Rutgers won six of its first seven games before dropping consecutive road games at Pittsburgh and No. 11 Michigan State. Since then, Rutgers has won four straight games, including a win over Wisconsin and a 20-point victory over No. 22 Seton Hall.

The Scarlet Knights feature a young lineup with only one senior and three sophomores. Junior guard Geo Baker is a three-year starter and averages 11.5 points while ranking among the Big Ten leaders in assists (4.0, sixth) and steals (1.8, first). Sophomores Ron Harper Jr. (11.8 ppg, 6.1 rpg), Myles Johnson (9.1 ppg, 8.7 rpg) and Montez Mathis (7.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg) all return after playing significant roles last year.

Skinny (from another site.)

The Skinny:
This is a team that Nebraska does and does not matchup well with. On the plus side, Rutgers plays fast enough offensively so they're not going to cramp Nebraska's style and there should be transition opportunities. Their traditional centers will have to try and guard Nebraska's small ball lineup at times. Nebraska's pack most likely won't be burned from 3. On the minus side, get ready for possessions where Rutgers continuously misses and then rebounds the ball until they finally score. It's probable that the size of the guards will be enough to kill some of Nebraska's transition offense. The Knights have been defending without fouling.

This appears to be the best team that Steve Pikiell has assembled at Rutgers so it's not entirely surprising to see them favored over this inconsistent Nebraska team. Is Rutgers ready to win a game on the road? They haven't just yet though they gave Michigan St a scare last month. Let us hope this Friday crowd is ready to carry the Huskers over the hump.

Prediction: Nebraska 73 - Rutgers 70

Players to watch: Geo Baker (Baker is Out for the Nebraska Game with a Thumb Injury)
The Junior PG is first on the team in assists and steals, 2nd in scoring and blocked shots. He's the catalyst for Rutgers working their way into the paint on offense.

Players to watch: Akwasi Yeboah
The Kevin Cross sized Stony Brook transfer was originally recruited by Pikell. Yeboah was first team All-Conference last year and has been one of the few Scarlet Knights knocking down 3s
  • Ron Harper Jr. is more of a slasher than a shooter but draws plenty of contact and is a defensive stopper
  • Center Myles Johnson is deadly when fed in the post and is a beast on the boards. He's a godawful FT shooter
  • Mathis, like many Rutgers SGs, is a SG who struggles to shoot
  • Texas transfer SG Jacob Young is the only player under 6'4" on the roster (6'2"). He takes a lot of shots and has been markedly worse than Mathis
  • F Caleb McConnell has platooned with Yeboah and also has been shooting well from 3
  • Centers Shaq Carter & Mamadou Doucoure are depth for Myles Johnson
