Less than ideal stat

That was one year of their career, so no.

Also did not hurt the Seahawks with rugby tackling over the last 3 to 4 years. They averaged 20 Forced fumbles the last 4 years. Admittedly not all from LBs but the tackling should not do whole lot. I think some players have the knack for the ball. Maybe punching the ball out was not taught that much or at all. People with knowledge of practice would know better than me

Probably true, but it's crazy to me that Banderas basically played in every game his entire career and never forced a fumble. I'm concerned with how hurt Dedrick Young was and how bad he was at Iowa that a guy like Mo Barry just wasn't ready to be put in there. Thought we had a little more depth than that.

I think we do have more depth but this staff for some reason is reluctant to give many guys a chance.

Crazy. Mentioned to my wife a few times how odd it is we never force fumbles and only get turnovers on picks.

You know how sometimes there is a pistachio in the bag that's all brown and rotten, but you eat it anyway? Seems like I've been eating an entire bag of those, one at a time, since Friday. I'm starting to think these aren't pistachios! Blechhh!

I cut my teeth on the vintage Blackshirt tradition. Historically forcing fumbles was a huge part of the Championship era's success. But as astounding and awful as this current stat is, I would guess there are other LB groups in the last 8 years that have not forced a fumble. The Blackshirts as a group have been very poor in the Forced Fumble categories for quite some time.

Just did some quick research. There was a definite dropoff in FPG this year but really it just went from bad to worse. None of it is good. Overall this is a stat that an Attacking Defense (Banker's words at the start of his tenure) had better make good on going forward. Definitely leaves a bad taste.

To put it even more simply ... only one team of the 128 FBS teams forced fewer fumbles than Nebraska this season. Appalachian State.

I like your abbreviated style, HWM! Minor correction to your comment. That scrappy Appy State team had was the one team worse in Opponent Fumbles Lost/Game. So they are not only bad at forcing fumbles, they are almost the worst at recovering what few they force.

For this year's Opponent Fumbles per Game Appy State is right in there. And there are some surprising members of this bottom tier (FSU, Oregon, Sparty). But for DONU to be here sniffing this end of that stat is less than inspirational.

Opponent Fumbles per Game
114 Toledo 0.8
115 San Jose St 0.8
116 Florida St 0.8
117 Hawaii 0.8
118 Nebraska 0.8
119 Utah State 0.7
120 Oregon 0.7
121 E Carolina 0.7
122 Akron 0.6
123 Michigan St 0.6
124 Boise State 0.6
125 App State 0.6
126 Fla Atlantic 0.5
127 Iowa State 0.5
128 Missouri 0.5

Is this an issue with the staff? Not trusting youth? How much worse could Mo have played? I'll submit that both Newby and Young had horrible years that went under the radar.

They started a true freshman last year...so, "not trusting youth" question is not real smart. Mo just isn't there yet...a long way to go.
