Its offical - We have a split national championship

For those who think UCF can't claim themselves national champion, we have good news for you...your worries are over. UCF has been independently declared the 2017 national champion by the Colley Matrix!

http://www.colleyrankings.com/

Mr. Colley has been naming national champions since 2001. He is a lifelong Virginia fan, so he holds no bias toward UCF. Therefore, the split national championship is legitimate!

The NCAA does not award an official Division I FBS college football title, so national champion disputes can occur. Since UCF is 2017's only unbeaten team, and since Alabama did not even win its own division, there is controversy. Alabama was the AP's final #1, but it was the 1st time since the CFP that the AP's #1 was not unanimous (UCF got 4 votes).

Even Wikipedia is having a hard time sorting it out.

Last week, Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed a proclamation declaring UCF national champions. There is now a bill in the Florida house to approve a "UCF National Champions" specialty license plate.

Congratulations to SF, his staff and his players for their NC. Let's hope (as Huskers) Scott and his gang can repeat as Colley Matrix National Champions in 2018.

If UCF had been the #4 seed in the CFP, CF analyst Lan Boyd said they would have been a slight favorite to beat Clemson and a 2-point underdog versus Georgia. Surprisingly, Lan thinks UCF's defensive line and Shaquel Griffin would have shut down the running games of both Clemson and Georgia just like they did against Auburn. Yes, he thinks UCF could have won the CFP.

He could be right.

I’m not so sure that’s official.

With no official NCAA FBS champion, the Colley matrix is as official as anything else. It uses math formulas, which are probably as good as the eye tests people are relying on.

Right now UCF is the transitive property NC and the Colley Matrix NC. They have also been declared NC by the governor of Florida and by UCF's AD.

Wikipedia's determination of who is national champion is widely accepted, but they are having trouble figuring it out. And when I let them know that UCF is national champion according to the Paramus Index.....

UCF....Colley Matrix national champions. That's what you claim when you've never won anything.

...and when you are the only unbeaten FBS team.

If UCF's win over Auburn had occurred in late October instead of in the Peach Bowl, they might have made it to the play-offs. Milton had a bad day against Auburn. If he had played great, UCF could have won that game by 20 points.

Versus UCF, I thought Auburn would dominate the line of scrimmage...that they would be too physical. But they weren't. In terms of physicality, Auburn is at the same level as Clemson and Georgia. And now we know UCF is too.

Jamarius Pittman. Tony Guerard, and Tryston Hill are big, strong, athletic DTs. The only reason Pittman did not get SEC offers is due to his 6'0" height. He is a very good DT.

Pittman and Hill were good in 2016 and Guerad came out of nowhere to become and NFL prospect on 2017

After watching the Peach Bowl, you have to believe that UCF could hold its own physically with Clemson and Georgia...and when it comes to skill players, UCF's were as good as any.

UCF had an exceptional team. They did not have the perceived SOS to get into the play-offs, but if they had been invited....

Paramus, do you keep bringing this up here because you got kicked off the UCF message board again? ;)

No that's not it. The Colley Matrix is new news on this board. That's why I brought it up. NU's new coaching staff won a NC. I thought Husker fans would like to know.

Some do, some don't

Well for longer than my nearly 60 years to even claim a Div 1 NC it's been accepted you have to win one of the two major polls and I think just about everybody still believes that's true. But you just keep being you. :)

So you are telling me they would have been a slight favorite to beat Clemson.....a two point dog to Georgia and yet they were an 8 point underdog to Auburn?
