Huskers Offer JUCO Speedster WR/KR Tre Richardson: OV For The Iowa Game

The return game in college, at the power 5 level, is almost non existent. So few kicks even have a chance for a return anymore. I mean, punt returns, the dudes are right on you, while you’re waiting for the punt (What happened?). Kickoffs, 75% + go out of the end zone, or are fair caught. I hope he can help in the slot, or as a specialist somewhere else.
Except what stinks is we given up a ton of punt returns for tds. Special teams have been ignored

It happens every so often. Law of averages. Most have no return.
We have improvements to make in every facet of the game, returns are no exception. Better to have the chance for a decent return than not. Take care of the little things, and the big things take care of themselves. I heard that somewhere ;) and believe it wholeheartedly.

Punters are WAY better than they used to be. The hang time is incredible. The placement is nearly perfect.

Kickers too. These two positions have changed dramatically over the past 15 years or so with fulltime specialist coaches starting in grade school.

It’s improved yes, no argument here. On punts, I wish they would adjust some rules or something to compensate. The gunners are almost always right by the return man, as he is catching the ball. Obviously, there are some exceptions here, but the punt return game is mostly non existent. Same with kickoffs. This sounds dumb to say, but give me Santino Panico fielding punts all day. He doesn’t drop the ball. Mostly, that’s all you get anymore, so sure hands are very important.

It's by NCAA design to reduce injuries. I agree with you that it's removed so much fun, but injuries on kicks occur too often for the NCAA.

Good point. I thought we would see more punts returns with Kemp but most of the time he fair catches due to having defenders in his face. I will say it has been a joy this year not seeing fumble the returns.
