Greg Allman Passes Away At 69

Suffered from a lot of health issues the past few years. Which led to the end of the ABB.

Was glad my daughter got to see the band in 2009 when I took her to them in Indio, CA. Got an Instant Live recording of that show.

Sad day in the music world.

RIP.

The Allman Brothers Band was by far the greatest of the Southern Rock era... and that isn't damning by faint praise.

Too much tragedy in that band and family and lost members of that band far too early...

Their fusion of blues, jazz and rock was so unique that no one really has been able to copy to any degree.

Greg was one of the great great blues singers ever and it did not come easy for the brothers who struggled to find a sound and band before the ABB came about in 1969.

One of the great Top 10 or so American bands of all time.

Had Duane not died so early, I think they would've been the greatest American band of all time.

Major bummer. I was fortunate enough to see these guys(with out Duane) on a couple of occasions. About 4 years ago, I was able to talk to Gregg and his body guard after a show, for around 30 minutes. Gregg was playing roulette at a casino where he played, and was a complete gentleman. His body guard, found out he was from Oakland, was also this really cool dude, he told me "No autographs" and I was more than cool with that. Got to shake his hand that night. Pretty certain I've told my story about them playing Melissa. Another sad day in music history. RIP Gregory!
