Georgia Southern Practice Thread: Thursday 8 Sept.: Coach Frost

If GA SO does indeed do "very fast tempo" it should help wear their D out a bit, like our tempo seems to do to our D occasionally.
Their tempo is really, really fast. Much faster than anything we've ever run. Impressive for a team getting used to a new coach and system.

Looks like we are in for another tough game? We'll just see how well prepared
Scott is for this one.

Little Georgia Southern Scouting Report:

On defense, the Eagles have a TON of 5th and 6th year seniors. Very experienced. And they play aggressive using 3-4/3-3-5. This team likes to send multiple rushers. With that said, the defense won't necessarily be the #1 key. The question is, can their offense wear our asses out and make this a competitive game?

On offense, they run a ton of 10 personnel with a bit more motion than us. To be honest, the offense looks a lot like Whips offense. They use outside zone more than we do, but what intrigues me most is they run TEMPO and they do it quicker than us when we do. If they can stay on the field, the 2nd half could be interesting for us as we have no depth and zero stamina.

If this is a close game at the half, hold on to your jock straps.

Couple of other notes:
* They run the outside screen the way Frost has dreamed to run it. It is very efficient play and one of their most effective.
* They throw a lot slants/outs/digs/screens but will then take their shots downfield.
* I can't say it enough, you are going to get exhausted watching Clay Helton's tempo offense. They run it FAST. If we stop them early and often, this will have an adverse effect on their defense, which would lead to a potential blowout for the Huskers.
* Not impressed with starting QB. Decent short passer, but isn't consistent with mechanics and accuracy suffers.
How good is their run blitz?

I think if their run blitz is effective with stunts etc, it could slow our run game down, just dont know how much or how good they are at doing them.
I feel we have some real play makers this year and are just scratching the surface and will see more going forwards on offense.
Defense needs to play fast not react fast, this has to change. Going to be tough with GSUs style of play to see too much improvement but I expect our pass rush will be disruptive when it can.

Another good example of how recruiting is just not always right. A walk on from Benkleman now listed ahead of NPG who was a 4 star and at or near the top of our rectuiting class.

congrats Phalen, kids a player
might we well throw Feist in there, ahead of Hutchmacher
Nope

They're all going to be tough, let's be real.
They're all gonna be tough, but I'm saying it's gonna be tougher for Neb than most people think, because many think it's "only" Georgia Southern. Good! Is that being real enough?

This team will not be even close to great until they figure out how to block and tackle.

The two most fundamental aspects of football, and we've been terrible at both through 2 games, against terrible teams no less.
That's why you keep running do the bigs up front learn to run block. Go back to fundamentals. We've had these crazy blocking schemes for passing but need to get back to run blocking. I feel good about these guys! Stay with em!
