Signing day is over. The staff was very efficient and closed very well! They brought in 30 recruits for OVs and closed on 19 of them for a 63.3% closing rate. This is after being at Nebraska for 6 weeks. Whether some of these relationships with recruits were created with before coming to Nebraska or some were built during these last 6 weeks, this staff geniunely connects with the young men who commit.

Here are the recruits who came for OVs the two weeknds before the dead period and right after Frost was named head coach.

There were 12 early signees total--the 8 listed above as well as TE/OLB Cameron Jurgens, OC Will Farniok, WDE/OLB David Alston, and K Barrett Pickering.

Here are the targets that the staff brought in on OVs to close out this class.

There have been 56 of 62 OVs used thus far.

The number of OVs allotted for schools by NCAA is 56 (see link below and scroll to blue box). NU gets an extra 6 OVs from unused OVs from the last academic calendar year, so that takes the total to 62 OVs. Since Riley only used 26 of 56 OVs which his 46.4%, NU is not allowed any extra OVs.

NU now has 6 OVs that can be used for the Spring Game or another time during the spring. The OVs reset in the fall, and NU will only have 56 OVs for the 2018-2019 academic calendar year.

In the thread on Maurice Washington, it was asked what the staff does if Ta'Zhawn Henry commits before Washington. I think the staff takes both if both want in.

Both Washington and Henry are thought of as all purpose backs by some evaluators. During the UA All-American Game, they said Washington was a RB who ran like a WR. Because of the flexibility of Frost's offense and the ability they could possess to line up as WRs, I would get them both on campus and sell the vision. Washington wanted to prove himself at the UA game, and he certainly did that.

Henry appears to be a lean to NU because of his friend Cam'Ron Jones who is coming back for an unofficial visit with Henry, while Wiltfong and Schaefer have put CBs to NU for Washington, but he has earned more attention because of his performance this week. If the staff can secure commitments from Jones and Henry, then the staff can push for Washington still as one of the +3 over signees. He is a talent that you don't turn away.

With a month left in recruiting and only 17 OVs left for the staff to use, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at how the staff has done when it comes to closing on those recruits who have come for an OV and where they go form here. (Side note: I'm really glad that no OVs happened during the Iowa game.)

S Cam'Ron Jones, Texas (UCLA Decommit 12/4/17; OVs to Baylor 12/8, Ole Miss. 1/26)
TE Messiah Swinson, New York (Missouri Signee)
ATH Marcus Riley, Florida (Louisville Signee)

Looking at the 14 OVs from the list above that happened with Frost's staff before the dead period, the staff got 9 commits and 8 of those signed early. Plus, one of those (Cam'Ron Jones) is a heavy lean to Nebraska. That's a possible 10 commits from 14 OVs. This staff proved it could close those first two weeks. With the number of OVs left for the staff to use, they are going to have to close during this last month, too.

There were 12 early signees total; the 8 listed above as well as TE/OLB Cameron Jurgens, OC Will Farniok, WDE/OLB David Alston, and K Barrett Pickering. So if safety CJ Smith stays committed and DT Masry Mapieu gets things lined up, that takes the class to 14, leaving 9-11 spots or so depending on further attrition.

So with that said, here are the targets that the staff has developed relationships with who they will have to close on. No one else jumps out from previous visits when Riley was here except WR Tommy Bush who is listed below.

Already had OV
S Cam'Ron Jones (coming back for unofficial on Jan. 12 with Ta'Zhawn Henry)
WR Tommy Bush (OVs to Michigan State 11/4, Georgia 12/15)
Reported as coming on OV January 12 Weekend
OLB/S Breon Dixon (Freshman Transfer from Ole Miss; interest from Wisconsin)
ATH Miles Jones (Vanderbilt Commit on 3/26/17)
APB/RB Ta'Zhawn Henry (TCU Decommit 12/10/17; with Cam'Ron Jones on an unofficial)
APB/RB Maurice Washington (OVs to Ole Miss 1/19 or 2/2, Tennessee 1/26)
OLB Javontae Jean-Baptiste (OVs to Boston College 12/8, Virginia Tech 12/15)
ATH/OLB Matthew Tago (UCLA Decommit 12/6/17; OV to Utah 9/16)
WR Dominick Watt (OVs to Cincinnati 11/24, Pittsburgh 1/19)
OG Jarrett Bell (Jan.12--Alabama Decommit 11/11/17; OVs to Arizona 10/28, UCLA 12/1)
Reported as coming on OV January 19 Weekend
OT Doug Johnson (Jan. 19)
S Tyrese Ross (Miss State Decommit 11/29/17; OV to Washington St. 1/26)
QB Jamarye Joiner (Arizona Commit 9/25/17; OVs to ASU 12/8, Arizona 12/15, Baylor 1/26, Alabama 2/2)
Reported as coming on OV January 26 Weekend
OG Blake McDonald (UCLA Decomit 11/5/17)
Reported as coming on OV Sometime in January
SDE Daniel Carson (OVs to Texas 9/9, Miami 12/8, Tennessee 1/12)
Reported as coming on OV February 2 Weekend
OT Hamilton Hall (OVs to Indiana 12/8, Miss State 1/26)

If all OVs happen from those 15 recruits who indicated they are coming, Frost and staff have 2 OVs left for this cycle, so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

For now, Breon Dixon, Cam'Ron Jones, and Maurice Washington have been getting some talk about having
CBs or being leans to Nebraska. I would put Ta'Zhawn Henry as a lean just because of Cam'Ron Jones. I know that Washington is probably the biggest question mark of those guys. So if 3 of those 4 do commit and stay committed, that takes the class to 17. That would mean they would need 4-8 more recruits to get to a class of 21-25 which would include the +3 the B1G allows for oversigning.

With a month left, it looks like a mountain for the staff to climb, but with the way they closed after getting recruits on campus and with the staff getting a lot of love nationally, too, I think they close out this class well and have a pretty good transition class on paper. After that, it's all about the work, and this staff has shown that it's going to be fast and it's going to get done.

Another note: Mike Schaefer said last night that the staff has really been pushing for Michael Thompson to come on an OV. I can see them saving an OV for him and maybe even asking someone in the list above to not even come if need be. I wasn't sure if he was announcing today at the Army All-American game or not.

Also, the above doesn't take into account any other grad transfers that could be available like the possible ones that @N2FL started a thread about from UCF or even from other schools.
Thanks for all of your work here. Frost and Co have done well so far all things considered.

Still wish we could get Bookie.:(

They have done a lot in a short amount of time. Looking forward to seeing how this class finishes out.

As for Bookie, he would be a great to have, but Nebraska will just have to do great things without him.

Another offer went out to a dual threat QB today...wonder who gets those last two OVs and/or who gets bumped.
