IIRC, he also had some sort of bone infection that hindered his recovery, too. Those can be extremely nasty. [Edit: I also think the infection resulted in permanently weakened bones and forced career end.]

This along with the loss of the OT from AZ that never made it on to the field due to high blood pressure. It almost seems like one of the curses of the Callahan era, which doesn't seem near so bad with twenty years of hind sight. Yes, things could get worse.

This is really sad. Prayers for him and his family.
