What unit was he with? Big Red One (1st Infantry Division), 29th Infantry Division or one of the many combat support units? My dad was a D-Day survivor, Omaha beach.
He was in a small advance recon unit, (14 GIs), radio communications, and was actually on the beach the evening of June 5 , after dark. All the guys in his unit survived. Didn’t talk much about the war. What unit was he with? Big Red One (1st Infantry Division), 29th Infantry Division or one of the many combat support units?
No small wonder ... he saw enough battlefield horror to last several lifetimes. The 29th ID assault waves had a terrible day.He was in a small recon unit, radio communications, and was actually on the beach the evening of June 5. Didn’t talk much about the war.
