We are tied for 3rd with Ohio State. We should make the tournament, but we need to sweep Indiana next week to overtake them.

Tight contest in the middle standings. Too lazy to search for next weekend B1G schedule. Who plays who?

The only games that really, truly matter are these here...

5/17 @ Creighton 6:30 p.m.
5/19 Indiana* 6:35 p.m.
5/20 Indiana* 6:35 p.m.
5/21 Indiana* noon

I think it's exciting this team played their guts out getting themselves in position to hopefully make the tournament. It looked pretty grim when they had that losing streak but really played well down the stretch. Lots of people gave up on them but they never quit on themselves IMO.

Absolutely, would not have read a tweet like this during that losing streak:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/BigTen?src=hash">#BigTen</a> postseason picture starting to become clearer. Mich State/Maryland look like they need to win tourney, NEB/MN/MICH in, OSU climbing.</p>&mdash; Kendall Rogers (@KendallRogersD1) <a href="https://twitter.com/KendallRogersD1/status/732024653636505602">May 16, 2016</a></blockquote>

We go 3-1 our last 4 regular season games we are in for sure, 2-2 probably need to win one or two in B1G tourney, 1-3 would be not ideal at all.

From this, sounds like Indiana has absolutely no hope. Apparently no better than 7th in the Big Ten pecking order. They did win their 6th straight series over the weekend, however.

To me, it's one of those things where the RPI is getting too much weight if that's what keeps them out.

Six straight series wins .... including a series win against #1 Minnesota -- in Minneapolis -- the weekend before last. They beat Kentucky (respectable SEC team) last week. They'll have Louisville tomorrow night.

I definitely agree with the Tweet ... no doubt in my mind, you win the Big Ten, you're in.

I think it's another reason you can't do the cupcake schedule for non-conference like they did, and if you do you better win and not lose (they did the latter). They played a bunch of teams located near them before the B1G and it cost them.

Nebraska is 21-9 vs. 51-200 RPI teams, where Indiana is 16-13. Virtually the rest of the W/L is the same. As we've discussed on this board, playing those 51+ teams really only give you a chance to lower your rating with losses and no upside. Nebraska won the series against a team ranked 108 before the weekend and fell a few spots in RPI. Nebraska has actually lost more games than Indiana in the 1-50 RPI range but it's not hurting us.

Sadly, no chance to catch Minnesota, and why we didn't play them is beyond me. Even if we sweep and OSU takes two out of three we still finish a half game back.

I believe every team plays 8 conference series; you can't play every team. And there are no conference divisions in baseball. Thus, you'll have no regular, every-year opponents, as in football.
