Concert Music

I had never attended concert events since 2010 or so. All cancelled for at least 3 months in the future due to C-19 thing? Probably so.

Now days, only Youtube HD concerts (replay, before C-19 crisis)

We talked about this just the other day. It's driving me nutty not being able to go to a live show. I've been going to live show's since I was around 14 and the last tickets I had were to Grace Potter and as of this moment, I am not certain of still being able to use my tickets if she even reschedules her show here. I miss live music more than I thought I would.... IT SUCKS, not having live music to go to in person and enjoy....

If I had a choice between live music and live sports for the rest of my life -- it would be live music. Sure, sports live are great -- but the dropoff between sports live and in person and sports on TV is not as big as the live music (concerts, in person) and watching a live show on social media (the Covid alternative). You can't replicate the sound, which is critical for music. And for that matter, if you go to a concert, once the music starts, there is no downtime. Attend a sporting event, and there's more downtime than there is actual play on the playing surface (especially football). If you're watching football at home or a bar, you can use the commercial time to run and grab a beer, something to eat, go to the bathroom, etc -- and not miss anything. Live music just doesn't work that way.

Austin minus live music is a shell of its former self. It's really quite depressing for someone who typically sees at least one show per week in the 8 years I've lived here (sometimes, 2-4 shows in a week).

Agreed 100%. It's been one of the best things in my life since I was a young teenager. Live music, music all around, but especially going to live events has been such a huge part of my life, that I just can't contemplate a future with out it. I love sports, it's why I am on this site, but it just doesn't compare to music.

Nashville is downright depressing with restrictions on live music and bars. I feel your pain.

The whole summer concert series has been scraped here, which I just find ridiculous as almost all businesses are now fully open, with several requiring employees to wear masks. But no shows are allowed, not even by local bands in small outdoor areas. It's a messed up world we currently live in.

Currently you can have live music in Nashville as long as there’s no more than two performing. Is this not some dumb ass thinking?

Most music venues in Austin are not open. They simply cannot create enough revenue without taking a loss by being open. The few that are have table-only seating (even outdoors) ... typically tables of 4-6 -- where it has to be everyone in your own group at the table (not multiple groups at one table) -- and tables set 6-10ft apart. So basically, a venue that would normally hold a couple thousand is limited to a couple hundred -- and it's only the bottom of the barrel acts willing to do those shows, as they won't get paid much if at all.

At least three music venues in downtown Austin have permanently closed over the past couple of weeks. More are pleading for donations to survive. They didn't get any federal assistance, as most small businesses were left to die. I saw a recent article that suggested up to 90% of music venues in America are in danger of closing permanently if conditions don't change soon.

Sports may well find a way to survive this -- but concerts are a much more intimate experience -- close to the stage (unlike a sports playing surface) -- standing-room-only/packed like sardines ... that's how live music works. There's no way any major music festival is going to happen this year. But even most local music venues can't happen either. No industry is being hurt more.

This is sad but true. There is a smallish local park right off of the lake that has this great series of outdoor music every Thursday night with local bands or bands from Sacramento or even the Bay area or Reno and such, that is on what is right now, permanent hiatus. It's a down right shame as people are out and about, the beaches are packed during the day here, the casino's are packed, but no live music shows. It's very freaking sad.

I only enjoyed live music (concert). Video music ...... mostly sucks.

During semi-quarantine, I spent more times via YouTube concerts. Again, I don't like video music.

You like Las Vegas show (concert)?

I stumbled across one Youtube concert ..... spectacular. Ala Las Vegas show. Top notched band, orchestra, background singers, lots of themes, dancers, hundreds of LED floodlights and strobes, amazing hologram projectors, transparent curtain screen, dozens of movable video screens, acrobats flying around, rotate stage ...... kinda like slow-motion carnival ride. All perfect synchronized, no screwed-up. Need to hire this director on the next Superbowl halftime show. Music performance (concert) ..... so-so but this show, unbelievable. I totally enjoyed it.
