Husker Rally Falls Short in 7-6 Loss

Lincoln - Facing one of the most dominant starting pitchers in the country in Andrew Morales, the Nebraska baseball team (9-7, 0-0 Big Ten) put up six runs on Friday night in front of 3,424 fans at Hawks Field, but it wasn’t enough as the No. 25 UC Irvine Anteaters (13-4) took the series opener with a 7-6 victory. The Huskers had the tying run at first base with two down in the bottom of the ninth, but Irvine closer Sam Moore got a groundball off the bat of Steven Reveles to earn his ninth save of the season.
Down three runs entering the ninth, freshman Ryan Bolt started things with a double down the left field line before Jake Placzek reached on a walk. Freshman Ben Miller then ripped a RBI single to left, while a fielder’s choice off the bat of Austin Darby plated Placzek to cut the deficit to one. But the Huskers were unable to come up with one more big hit, as an 0-1 pitch was grounded back to the pitcher to end the rally and the contest.

And now, the rest of the story:

For some reason, you will have to copy and paste the url, if you want to read the rest
of the article.

Sorry! :)

BTW, the only subject not brought up in the above article on yesterday's game was, the hp umpire totally ticked off both managers and players with his enept, inconsistent calling of balls and strikes!

I believe his name is something like Sheffers or Sheffert? In any case, the entire game, even the announcers, Lane and Greg, were totally miffed by his bad calls on both teams! And, to top it off, knowing he had Darin's total ire, he struck out one of ours, and proceeded to punch him out with a fist right at Darin's direction. What a putz!
