There is a great article in yesterday's LJS by the father of Rachel Blackburn, Husker #43.

The Army major and his family stopped in front of the cross at Lorraine American Military Cemetery, the largest of 26 World War II graveyards in Europe.
David and Lisa Blackburn had walked these grounds before and they’d visited other cemeteries in the late 1990s while stationed at the U.S. Army base in Heidelberg, Germany.

Their girls were in the car, Rebecca, 11, and Rachel, a dark-haired toddler in a car seat who had yet to give up her pacifier.

They wanted to teach Rebecca about the war, David said last week. The lessons of selfless service and honor and sacrifice embodied in those graves.
But as they walked the cemetery — quiet and empty of mourners — another thought came to them: Maybe they could make a connection with soldiers’ families back home.

On this Sunday, they paused in Section C, Row 16: S SGT Ward W. Wubbels Nebraska January 12, 1945
There can’t be that many people in Nebraska, David thought, and there can’t be many named Wubbels.
He called silently to the fallen warrior.
“Ward W. Wubbels from Nebraska; Oh, yeah, I can find your relatives.â€
