Yeah, Cerni was on scholarship. Only punted in 5 games over two years if I remember right. He was the last one in the 2020 class and pretty much the first thing Johnathan Rutledge did when hired was offer Cerni.
Correct. I remember when Przystup left Michigan State he claimed something along the lines that they promised him a scholarship and failed to deliver. Him not getting a scholarship after the year is probably why he left Nebraska as well.
Man have we had a run of bad luck with our kicking specialists.
So, what was/is Cerni's injury that impacted his punting to the point he retires on medical scholarship? This all just seems odd to me.
He injured his leg (ACL tear I believe) his first year and missed the whole season. This year I think he was dealing with hamstring issues - and he just wasn't consistent. I'm guessing that they told him they didn't have any room and could use his injuries to place him on medical scholarship so he could stay in Lincoln or he could enter the transfer portal. Total assumption that this wasn't his idea initially.

Also removed RFr WR Ty Hahn and RFr Deondre Jackson. Hahn was supposed to be going on scholarship this season, but the extra Covid year might be delaying that. I'll wait to re-add him if we hear any official word. No clue on Jackson's actual status at the moment.

Rutledge was a disaster
and he spewed some venom on the way out too.
Removed R-Jr DE's Casey Rogers and Tate Wildeman. Rogers entered the transfer portal and Wildeman retired.
