#20 Stanford v Oregon St.

serious question...did TO look bored on the sideline?
Sometimes, but usually he looked like he was concentrating, and he had his moments where he got fired up on the side lines. MR is no TO though, so not a real fair question of comparison.

I know this has been debated to death already, but boy did we mess up not getting Harrison Phillips. He was a beast in that game last night.
It has not been debated enough, IMO.

Stupid is as Stupid does...

Somehow we've had coaches who are convinced that someone from out of state has to be better than someone in state... Hey, if they were that good, they wouldn't be Living IN Nebraska...

TO looked very intense, but was very composed. A lot of old timers didn't think he had the fire needed to be a head coach. Many would have preferred Monte Kiffin.

TO was tremendously engaged, chomping on his gum. But really never displayed a lot of emotion, it was notable the few times he did display emotion. He was more intense, then, say Tom Landry, with whom he was often compared (at least by the Lincoln Press). In fact, the Lincoln Press (Virgil Parker IIRC) argued that TO might be Landry's successor.

Interesting question in hind sight. How much of the great pub in the Lincoln papers came from the Bobfather? Devaney long argued (privately) that he would be hard pressed to find a coach as good as TO at any price. Putting out comparisons of TO to Landry would have been a good move.
