Sumlin to UCF

The AD at UCF was insane to say that he wanted Scott to coach the bowl game, that's a horrible thing for them.

It would keep any recruits from signing early, be hard on team moral as they would be wondering what is actually going to happen regards a coach, and it would be hard for Scott and his staff to be focused on the bowl knowing the personal and professional changes facing them Jan 2.

Best thing for UCf is to appoint a interim Head coach, do a quick search and move on.

Apparently after AD White initial dumb statement, he has wised up and hopefully will focus on maintaining his recruiting class and Scotts system as the bowl victory is less important in the overall picture.

Great hire for them if it ends up being the case.

A place like UCF can go two routes. They can hire a young guy like frost but they will lose him, 100%, if he's really good. OR they can hire an older coach who has already experienced the "big time" and maybe doesn't feel the need to get right back to it. O'Leary was about 56 or so when he was hired there and stayed 12 years. Sumlin is 53 so a little younger and will still be attractive in 2 or 3 years if he does well but he's old enough that he might just say "Screw it...this is a good place to ride it out."

This seems to question if UCF is indeed hoping for stability. From Sumlin’s perspective, he’s inheriting a very good team that should contend for a conference crown again. It’s also getting some national attention, which won’t hurt in recruiting, but more importantly, won’t hurt in keeping his name out there for another P5 opportunity. For some reason, I just can’t imagine Sumlin is ready to cruise off into the sunset, being happy spending his next 10-15 years scrapping in the AAC.

On one of their fan boards, one of their fans was bragging that they would get a big name coach if Frost left. Maybe he was right.
Glad they got who they got and they will be happy about it. Had Moos announced Sumlin, there would have been statewide melt downs in NE.

With the money and success coming at UCF, they are in store to become a real pain for other Florida schools in the near future. They've been building for years and not much of a stepping stone anymore. When Frost got that job, I was like dang. Great recruiting ground, not a ton of expectations and a school that has its eyes on growing aggressively. Great situation.

Frost had a good job and Sumlin will do well there imo.

Frost is a smart guy....calculating even. He was smart enough to know that despite being 0-12 that wasn't an 0-12 roster.
