Just wondering out loud here...has anyone mentioned yet that, although the text on the HMax front page says "Pelini said to be interested" in the Purdue job, nowhere in the article does it actually say that Pelini is interested? it just quotes an anonymous, former coach who says that "he would definitely be interested" and would be a good fit. Not that he is interested, or that Purdue is even looking at him.

Minor details.

That's a fair assessment. Like I said, I never understood why it took the staff so long to get in a recruiting groove. Looking back at the earlier cases, and comparing them to the last 2, it's night and day. Just looking at the young talent on the O line (Gates, Farmer, Foster, Gaylord, Decker), shows how much better it got. But yeah, some big misses and roster mismanagement were black marks.

Perhaps it's just perception, but the previous staff seemed to accept and, at times, bemoan the "difficulties" of recruiting to Nebraska. It seemed they didn't get into the fight for some top talent because of their defeatist attitude. This new staff, however, seems to embrace the recruiting "advantages" of Nebraska, and is willing to go after that talent, with positive results so far.

This.

I hated seeing the previous staff talking about how hard they had it trying to recruit here. This staff seems to embrace the challenge fully and are making the best of it.

Don't focus on the negative.

Also a fair assessment. While they weren't wrong about the recruiting disadvantages, that shouldn't be something publicly stated all the time. Perhaps one good byproduct of that is the recruiting tools offered by the AD improved a lot during their tenure, and it has certainly helped Riley and the new staff.

Yep if you tell the world that it is hard to recruit good talent here. Recruits here that too. they want to play with other good players so they move on. If you tell the world this is the best place in the world to play they here that too. We ae currently seeing what that does.

Well, one of the Purdue alumni that had said favorable things about Bo, just sent me this story that is circulating amongst his alumni buddies.

Some hiring advice from Husker Nation to Purdue

Finally, for the sake of everything that is sacred and holy, Mr. Bobinski: do not hire Bo Pelini. I know that people extol his virtues as some sort of defensive genius, but he set records for failure at Nebraska. For you, sir, you will be voluntarily choosing what I’m assuming will be a four or five-year period of time that you will spend babysitting your head coach if Pelini is your choice.

He is myopic, paranoid, lazy, narcissistic and will make your program as a whole look worse. I don’t just mean on the football field, either. He’ll command more money than either of my two previous suggestions and your return on investment will be hideous. The culture he would bring to West Lafayette would perhaps rival one found in the cinematic masterpiece Mad Max: Fury Road.

I say this to you as someone who’s trying to do you a favor here, Mr. Bobinski. You saw what this man did at a blueblood program with every advantage. Do not believe the hype. It is nothing but lies.

I really can't see any P5 team hiring him. We shall see if this goes anywhere. I doubt it will.

I would agree with this. He was given every chance to clean up his on-field demeanor at NU, and never did. Therefore, I don't think P5 is in his future.

It apparently carried over off the field into the AD offices, and then a woe is me attitude to recruiting.

You're referring to this tirade? :

A) He got two seprate unsportsmanlikes in the 4th quarter. It was a long period of multiple outbursts to the point they had to call in a police escort for the officials to protect them after the game! Outlined here: http://footballscoop.com/news/bo-pe...eam-a-game-and-some-things-just-never-change/

B) 45 coaches would act that identical way??? Watch the replay again. I bet you couldn't find even 2 or 3 FBS coaches that would react to that degree.

C) That's hardly the only time Bo has lost his temper at Youngstown. Just ask this girl:

Or this guy:

Good riddance!

It's like somebody photoshopped pics of BP at NU.

Same guy. Same problems.

What was wiscy's record when they boat raced us with the SAME play over and over again??? Most would have called them an average team.

3rd place team in the East (7-5?)just scored again, on the same play, vs. an NU team that had managed to win 6 in a row to win the West.

The fact that people still think Bo hit a ref with his hat makes me laugh.. it is tall tale that has grown. He was swinging his hat like he wanted to Billy Martin it to the ground and the little strap came loose. He was several feet from hitting the ref.

I was with him on the booers after the OSU win, you dont boo college kids trying hard and representing your institution... he is an emotional guy... after that tape he had a pretty calm season where he worked hard to build up his image.

It is just my opinion regarding SE and HP...an opinion that I feel is somewhat educated based on my preception of SE... I think he along with many Husker fans are holier than thou about a lot of things. We all long for Dr Tom.

Bo is a very good football coach and I think time will show us that as he continues his career. I expect and think he will have 200 career wins when he hangs it up.

you're entitled to your opinion, not your own facts.

That strap was about 1/2" from hitting the ref.

Ref winces in comes so close.
