I remember growing up in Nebraska and spending nights in our finished basement. We lived about 9 miles out of town and it was impossible to hear the town’s warning siren. If a twister came at night and were asleep you might never wake up! Dad made sure the family slept in the basement when there were tornado alerts on TV or radio. Had a few close calls over the years but fortunately never took a direct hit. People that don’t live with tornado’s (like here in CT) have no clue how scary and powerful they can be.
