If it weren't for the guys getting a ring, it would be nice to get to Omaha. You, at least, would end up in the top 10 of baseball, right? But, the ring lasts forever.
Of course, if you could win it all, there is no question, taking that over the ring. National Championship is another thing. Surely, you get a ring for that.

The Big 10 tourney is not that big a deal to me... I want a season similar to what we had (more mid week game wins, though, and against tougher competition), win the Big 10 outright. Do that, then a regional is a certainty.. go from there to a super regional, and at the least get to the championship game.
For me, that is a great year, and something we should be striving for every year (not saying we aren't, just saying it anyway).. The magical season for me is getting into the CWS and winning a game or two.

This should be our goal….
Get to the CWS…. Then anything can literally happen…it’s Baseball!
We need to be enough of a power to consitantly host regionals…. I think that is our next step And I think Nebraska is in a unique situation and has the resources and commitment to get there.
I do think the Big Ten is a “big deal” because it leads to our goals.
I also think that for championship starved Nebraska fans who haven’t seen much since we’ve moved to the Big Ten… Winning the Big Ten Baseball Tournament this year just felt….

just a note.... I said the Big 10 "tourney" is not a big deal, winning the Big 10 is important.
Strangely enough…..only one of the two guarantees a bid to the dance.
And it’s the Tournament. 32 of the 64 teams receive an automatic bid by winning their Conference Tournament…..the other 32 are “at large” selections.
I don’t remember a time when the “regular season” winner has not gotten a bid….but I researched this…and “regular season” winner is not guaranteed.
It was close one time I can remember. The Conference struggled mightily that year with RPI and Strength of Schedule…..and the final in season conference winner barely had a winning record. It was close, but the conference still got two bids that year.
Either way…we need to do one or the other….consistently.
And start winning the vast majority of those mid week games.
I’d also like to see a continued tough opening schedule like we had this year.
Starting with an RPI of #3 in the nation helps come selection time.
no, you are right, the regular season winner isn't guaranteed, but if you have the record, if you have the RPI, the SOS, you won't be left out.. Relying on the conference tourney to get in says you are not trying hard enough (not saying that is what NU is doing, just saying overall, you don't want to rely on that).
Just look at Florida.. lost the first game of the SEC tournament, but because of the schedule, they got in... with a .500
Winning the tourney adds to the trophy case, and yes it also comes with an automatic bid, but that doesn't mean much else.
Your RPI, SOS and all that stuff decides your seeding.

As I said…I have never seen the regular season winner of the BiG be left out….
One year it was pretty dicey though….and the regular season winner barely made it in and got a low seed.
But I think it’s pretty safe to say if you win the BiG in the regular season…your ticket is punched.
Baseball is weird in this way.
People used to actually care about “Winning the pennant”
Now they only care about getting in the playoffs and getting hot….
The kids did not win the regular season. But they did with the Tournament.
Big Ten Champions either way in my book. And Nebraska hasn’t much won anything in the BiG in Men’s sports for a while…except for Baseball.
I don’t know about you….but that Tournament win and the way they did it….and in Omaha no less…meant a lot to me….and I suspect most Nebraskans as a whole.

Big shocker…… Evansville beat Tennessee today to even that super regional.
UVA in the CWS….. I met the coach when I coached high school ball…..Coach O’Connor….superb coach! Grew up in Omaha no less!
Our high school team went to his camp up in Charlottesville a couple of times.
I will never forget the night he came over personally to the dorm where we were staying at 9 o’clock at night…… and said to the boys: “Who wants to take some infield right now?
9 o’clock at night…camp had been over that day for 3 hours.
He spent the next 45 minutes with 22 boys, giving personal, college level instruction and taking infield and outfield under the lights. He held nothing back and hit the ball at my kids hard. The boys loved it!
