Womens BB updates

The Womens' basketball board is a ghost town. The team is solid with a 10-2 record and ESPN has them as a 9-seed in their Bracketology earlier this week. Tough games at #1 UCLA on Sunday and at #4 USC on Wednesday :wow:.
They've played only two road games so far and lost them both. :xfingers:

Think this is the first time I ever opened the women's basketball forum.

Probably should care more. Just don't pay attention to basketball.
Looks like their doing good.

Hardly any coverage here on HM for women's hoops.

The current struggles have dropped the Huskers to one of the last four teams in the tournament. There is a difficult game at Maryland tomorrow night (Feb 13) and then four winnable games at Illinois, hosting Washington & Oregon, then finishing at Northwestern.

Current standings - a 3-2 finish feels like a requirement to get into the NCAA tournament. Top 15 get into the Big Ten tournament, so we are safe there. (My wife and I will be at all sessions of the B1G tourney)

ESPN Bracketology - not too bad of a draw with a TCU location; but would need to win three to get to the Sweet 16.

There is one simulation/projection site that I've found for remaining women's games. https://omnirankings.com/wcb/Conferences/Big Ten.htm

The latest update was before the Iowa game; but, they predicted an Iowa win in Lincoln, so this seems reasonable.

A team wants to be in the top 9 to avoid playing on the first day of the B1G tournament. Let's assume that these projected standings include the proper tiebreakers.

Here is the projected bracket:

Since Red Don it's here to keep the page going it is like a dying star.

The men turned a horrendous six game losing streak into an impressive 4 game winning streak to keep tournament hopes alive. The women need to do the same, and tonight is a great win to start. Down 29-15 at the start, and then cruising by 28 near the end. First road win against a top 17 team in more than a decade. Fantastic.

ESPN's bracketology update today moves Nebraska off of the last four in and into the last four bye as a 10-seed. It was a big upset over a ranked team on the road, so I would have liked to see a bit of a bigger move; but, I guess going from an 11 to a 10 this late in the season is about all you can ask.

Also, Big Ten bracket projection from OmniRankings should get updated tomorrow. These are as of last Saturday - the Monday Iowa loss was expected, the Maryland upset likely makes the projected record 11-7 and maybe the 8 seed. You need to be 9th or better to avoid playing on the first day. Expected to lose at Illinois on Sunday, so we'd be behind both Illinois and Indiana if these standings finish as shown. So, 8th seed and playing Michigan or Iowa on Day 2 of the tourney and then the #1 seed with a win.

Lex is fine... she's one of the most consistent if not dominant bigs in D1, no other big gets the same attention she does because of how the offense runs thru her....she's doubled every game and start noticing how she gets beat up on every Offensive possession and keeps coming back gfor more...Lex is fine.

I plugged in who I think will win each game and ended with Nebraska as the #7 seed (losing at Illinois, winning the rest). If we win out and the others games go as I (reasonably) picked, Huskers are the #4 seed (above Maryland due to head-to-head tiebreaker!)

Huskers up 31-30 on Illinois at the half. Illinois is above Nebraska in the B1G standings for seeding. As mentioned above, if Huskers win out and other games break right, it could be a #4 seed and double-bye.
But, let's get the W in this one first!

Will be a loss. More important is Prince rolled an a ankle with about a minute to play. Didn't put any weight on it after.

Well, this pretty much takes away any chance of reaching the tournament this year. I give the ladies credit for gutting it out under trying circumstances this year. We have not been very good overall for a while. Recruiting isn't this staff's forte and Prince may have been a bit of a steal (hope she stays at least one more year)
