Winter conditioning is under way

One big change, not a ton of weight room stuff.

At least that is the take away from the pictures the AD is posting! I think they are making every effort to foster the team as a team, first and foremost. I would certainly expect weights are still being lifted.

“Rhule is a strong proponent of progressive methods in strength training, such as the use of GPS and tracking equipment. Nebraska will place a renewed focus on recovery and regeneration. An emphasis on sleep and hydration and coordination with directors of sports science, nutrition and athletic medicine factor in Campbell’s work.”

I love this. Recovery, hydration, sleep, and nutrition are the things I preach to my runners all the time. I like Campbell’s approach.

I don’t understand anything you are talking about but I’ll hydrate myself with a double knob creek and think about it a bit. :-).

I don't have any inside insight on what we've been doing at the training table, but I've seen things going back to Pelini I thought were off. I wish I could see under the hood there a bit. I did see a couple of pieces over the years on 'customized meal plans' based off of position group, but it should be a finer point than that. There are pretty predictable results with strength training and nutrition combinations, but not everyone responds identically.

On the rest and recovery piece, it is a missing part of training, especially for young men. They typically think 'More is better' in all facets of lifting and that's not the case. I overtrained for years thinking it was what was required to hold serve, when I was actually holding my progress back. I do think this approach will likely lead to fewer injuries in the near term, leave something in the tank when it matters (on the field) and they'll be thanking Campbell when they're 50 something and things still work.

Looking forward to fall.
