Why Is It Always The Refs Fault?

So now with NU's third loss of the year, us fans, once again blame the refs.

So it begs the question: Why is it always the refs fault? Evidently, according to some on this board, the refs are out to get DONU.

I read it on this board after Oregon. I read it after Wake, and now I'm reading it again.

In fact, in the CU-NU game thread, someone said Nebraska is getting "homered". So if NU was at home versus Oregon and Wake, was NU getting "awayered"???

It sucks to have the refs seemingly conspiring against us? Is there something TO can do to prevent this. Can he contact Jim Delaney about it?

Get a new crew of referees.

We have been getting screwed quite a bit (not all the time) but quite a bit, it's noticeable now these days. Those phatom fouls when we had the ball at the end against Oregon???? C'mon.

We have not been getting screwed....good teams make plays and bad teams like get called for being slower to the ball or reaching a lot. But it is easier to blame the ref's that the facts that Doc is clueless on what a Divison 1 coach should be.....offense is terrible again if not for Spencer we might not score 40 points a game.....just think how we will be without him next year.

This.

Don't worry P-Ville, certainly The Good Doctor will have yet another transfer (maybe even a foreigner, since those have worked out so well) to plug into the offensive juggernaut that is Husker Basketball

I just wonder what would have transpired had Harvey really pulled his weigh and got Sallie enrolled at DONU...Sallie is a baller.

We do lack talent but what can we do? Who would you hire?

I advocated for Josh Pastner and did anyone listen? Nope except for Memphis and look at how well he's doing there.

it's a loser's mentality. Occasionally a poorly officiated game will cost you a game...OCCASIONALLY. Maybe a really bad end of game call or something. But that's not what is happening to Nebraska. Nebraska plays a very aggressive brand of defense...LOTS of reaching and grabbing. They will get fouls called on them. Period. NU only had 5 more fouls than CU yesterday. That not a lot when you consider there could have been a lot more. And if you look at NU's first 7 games NU has had more fouls than the opponent every time except the first game. Usually a difference of 4 or 5. So yesterday was just par for the course.

The real issue with NU basketball is that it's a horribly coached offensive team. I keep hearing "this is Doc's best team". I find that really hard to believe. At 4-3 (easily could be 3-4) NU has lost to two teams at home that his best team probably shouldn't be losing to. Wake is simply not good and Oregon is probably an NIT team at best. If this is his best team he should be fired now. Of course, he won't be. Spencer is good, obviously. Although I still don't like a PG dominating the offense. It's just not what you'd hope for. Other than that what does NU have? A seriously weak Center. He's got skills but his playing so soft will always keep him from being what he could be. McCray? Flashes of good ball but inconsistent. Ubel? eh. Richardson? Eh. (Someone tell this kid to wait til after the whistle to whine about "bad calls").

This team is in for a very long and poor year.

agree for most part.

That's the thing....why can other schools have success in 2-3 years and we struggle for 6 years with Doc and his next recruiting class is average at best.....and if Andre redshirts like it looks like we are one over again and another player will all a sudden become "HOMESICK" and transfer to be closer to home only to end up the same or farther distance. Nothing good is going on here at NU with the Good Doctor.

Very good post. NU should be 3-4 and only Creighton is really good. The Big 10 teams are looking really good and I don't see how we match up with them as they are used to a slower brand of basketball and tough defenses, but they know how to score and they will shut our one player offense down. We will have to go 12-6 in conference to have a chance at the Dance imo. Cause we will be 8-3 or maybe 7-4 if our road woes get us at TCU.

This is nowhere close to being Doc's best team or it might be but it is not a total upgrade that you need.

And for what it's worth. The technicals were worth only 3 points and did not include possession so it wasn't like it was a HUGE point swing. Momentum? Sure...but CU had already grabbed back some measure of momentum at that point by erasing a 5 point deficit and converting it to a 1 point lead and with Gibbs headed to the line to shoot two.

I, for one, did not blame the refs. As I said in my post, NU may very well have lost the game anyway. However, the refs took over a close game and turned it into a rout. If you look at the replay, an offensive foul should have been called on the Creighton player. And Creighton ended up getting 6 free throws. It definitely was the turning point of the game.

I'm sure it the same thing would have happened to CU, all of the Bluejay fans would be screaming bloody murder.

1. I've seen the replays...and I see Richardson push gibbs in the back as well as gibbs' contact with Richardson. it was physical inside. Richardson got beat and then acted a fool.

2. It did not turn the game into a rout. It was 3 points.

Sometimes 3 points is a route for NU as we still in year 6 struggle to score for long stretches. It is kind of like when Callahan was here and we were trailing at half we knew the game was over.
