Thats how we roll unfortunately! Have a good team every ten years or soOver a stretch of years… Nebraska basketball has not had “momentum”very oftenever. Basically starting from scratch again is quit frightening.

This is not true of recent history. Consider the model Fred has gone with in the last 2 years, and I point out those because they are the ones that were based on the change in direction post Matt A. We had numerous players visit, but really focused on players with specific talents Fred felt we needed. He added some that one might say were players with potential, but not finished products. A few of our ‘potentials’ have chosen to give it a shot elsewhere, as have a couple we may have hoped would have continued to work at developing, but that’s the world we live in. Players who used to stick things out because transferring was limited and/or challenging, can now go closer to home or play with friends, and yes, in some cases, earn more NIL. None of the guys in the portal are local or have ties to Nebraska. There seems to be a focus on looking for players that mirror some of our prior starters, some even look to be upgrades physically.History is not on our side

We were in similar circumstances the last 2 years, and we filled the roster just fine. There are plenty of teams who face similar situations, so let’s not push the panic button, this isn’t 1985 with only a handful of transfers who have to sit a year.
I agree with your post, especially this last part. The reality is the need to pull in transfer classes like Gressel/Gary/Bandoumel and Mast/Williams/Allick is the new norm, and he's proved in these last 2 classes at least he can do it.We were in similar circumstances the last 2 years, and we filled the roster just fine. On one hand, yes, they do get some. On the other hand, there have been several transfers from Nebraska to Dakota schools where the player never shows up on the court (Brady Heiman for one). I'd argue that Griesel never would have been a starter at Nebraska if he hadn't had time to grow at NDSU. Possibly the same with William Kyle III. Allick went to UMKC to develop. It’s kind of sad that the North and South Dakota States of the world seem to do a better job of evaluating local HS talent.
I think it's more a representation of the developmental path in college basketball, and how everyone misses the late bloomers, not just a Nebraska thing. Mark Sears (Ohio to Bama) Scheirmann and Ashworth at Creighton (South Dakota and Utah St) Dalton Knecht (Northern Colorado to Tennesse) Max Abmas (Oral Roberts to Texas) to name a few. 12 out of the top 20 prospects on this list are transfering from mid-majors or lower https://www.cbssports.com/college-b...yers-as-bensley-joseph-commits-to-providence/It’s kind of sad that the North and South Dakota States of the world seem to do a better job of evaluating local HS talent.
If I was SDSUs coach I would chase borderline P5 talent. I would tell them about my ability to develop players, how we have successfully pushed guys to high P5 schools, how playing early has helped them and how coming to SDSU will guarantee them success.I think it's more a representation of the developmental path in college basketball, and how everyone misses the late bloomers, not just a Nebraska thing. It sucks for the NDSU and SDSUs of the world that they'll probably never keep their talent anymore, but it's good for us.
