What does Vegas know that we don't know?

It’s possible.

When I watch what other teams are doing to our outside game, they’re often times over committing. OSU was able to blow it up with just the DB’s covering the outside receivers while keeping their LB’s home, but I’ve seen others react to the initial motion and an additional safety or LB commit to stopping the outside play.

On your last sentence, if it does work once, teams typically look for it again and it served it’s purpose. That’s partially what the screens are for. You want to play man and pressure? Ok. How’s this taste. Unfortunately until we can block that play, it tastes pretty good.
Understand, but that's what I meant when I said it wouldn't loosen them up much. Since our downfield passing game is weak I don't think a single successful draw would force them to change much. Raiola's scrambles worked kind of like a draw but I don't think they forced them out of what they were doing.

Thats when you pull a fast one and run the double screen if your teams up to it.

You’d have to wear them out with something to force the DC to change what he’s doing. I’m thinking more along the lines of keeping ILB’s and Safeties at home. Right now, they crash on anything that doesn’t include a ‘Go’ pattern or a deep TE seam route.

I have to keep reminding myself that was Ohio State's backfield, who are pretty good. So we weren't going to complete much downfield. I'm not sure with where we are that any other play calls would have helped much. Sometimes you're just overmatched. The great news is that our defense was not overmatched. That's something

Top 5 defense in Ohio State for sure. Seems to get forgotten when folks are critiquing what we do/did. Still plenty of room for improvement, but that was a stout defense out there. Fundamentally sound, well coached and great athletes. More than a few will be playing on Sundays.

I knew the offense would have a tough go, but was really impressed with not only what White schemed up for Ohio State, but how well they executed. We got burned on three plays, but really held our own on everything else.

The best thing? UCLA has shown no such propensity, especially in defending the pass.
Which brings us to our OP. Has the honeymoon for DR somehow ended? And has it really ended?

I guess my overall view is that it's too simplistic to just blame play calling because there are other problems on the offense that force you into certain plays. And I don't believe the offense is underperforming much if any due to play calling. I'm not sure even a genius play caller would make much difference.

But that doesn't get Satterfeld and Rhule off the hook in my mind, though it does give them more time to fix it. I'll let Rhule make any changes he wants or none at all in the offseason and trust he knows way better than me. But the offense needs to be much better by early next season, especially with the portal making it possible to fix talent issues faster, or the team simply isn't getting anywhere. The O-line will be my much less experienced, but that means they should also improve rapidly and visibly in the early season. Raiola will have grown. If execution is still holding them back, Satterfeld won't be looking good.

I had to look, but actually this OP is about Vegas. We've wandered off topic I guess. But to answer your question. I don't at all believe the honeymoon for Raiola has ended.

I've said he sometimes looks like an interception to happen right now, but that's because he's not yet a miracle worker who can succeed despite the deficiencies of those around them. He's a freshman with a very high career ceiling. Until something changes, he's the last person holding the offense back

Raiola? No that's silly, imo. Fully agree. This game can be a defining game for him, provided all the guys do their jobs.

IMO, the biggest challenge for Rhule in his job right now is still making the offense around Raiola better fast enough to take advantage of him.
