Osborne coached in thrre kickoff classic type games. One criteria he stood by, was he wanted a vetrran starting qb in orfer to play in the game
Great point!!
Having a returning starting quarterback was critical to play in those type of games against a quality opponent on a neutral field. He was taking a risk to play those games to start the season but he knew he stood a great chance of winning with a quarterback that had already been through the fire of a season.
I attended a West Virginia- Virginia game in Morgantown in 1984 or perhaps 85. I had the best time ever. The people we stayed with offered pure southern hospitality which came with southern appeal like I had never experienced being a Nebraska boy. It wasn't a commercial hotel or bed and breakfast, just friends of friends who wanted to show us what West Virginia was all about. The game was fun, we were treated well by the fans but the most memorable thing was the Southern charm, the food, and the warmth of our hosts. I could live there. It is such a beautiful state.
Hopefully they are still the same in 2026.
For the most part, enjoyed watching Nebraska tackling in this game. Haven't seen that good of tackling in the last couple of decades. Hopefully, we will be better this year.
From my seat in the stands... WVU had no chance on offense. Huskers were mean and sudden on defense.
That was the exact same thing I saw from my couch during the game.
Was at the game. It was hotter than Hades. Took us a little while to get started. Left no doubt in second half
in orfer huh? I'm 100% positive Tom was better than that.
