:Welcome:

"We are very excited to add Julian, his wife Kaylee, and son's Malachi and Elijah to our Husker women's basketball family," Williams said. "Julian is a high-energy, passionate coach and a dynamic recruiter. His 16 years of collegiate coaching experience coupled with his values and integrity make him the perfect person to positively impact our student-athletes through the game of basketball."
Assibey (pronounced ah-SEE-bay) comes to Lincoln after spending the past three years as an assistant coach at Florida, where he helped the Gators to three consecutive postseason berths.
Born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, Assibey grew up in Downey, Calif., before earning four letters in men's basketball while also competing in track and field (long jump, triple jump, 4x100-meter relay) at William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Filled that position pretty quickly (4 days). Must have been a previous connection or they knew Goehle was planning on leaving for some time. Anybody know if there was a previous connection with Williams or any of the assistants?

This is a really impressive hire by Amy Williams. Coach Assibey's players improved everywhere he's been. He also knows the region's recruiting landscape from his time at Colorado.

I was stunned at Coach Goehle's retirement, but I definitely understand and respect his decision to pursue his passion for mission work. I'm sure he's going to do a lot of good in the world. I suspect he and Amy Williams had talked about his plan for months, which allowed her to research potential replacements and make this hire quickly.

Coach Goehle had been on Amy's staff for 8 years, going back to their days at South Dakota. You don't stay on the same staff that long without being friends with the head coach apart from your shared passion for basketball. (Some of the road trips are too long to work with people you don't like. ) I'm quite sure they talked about his potential retirement for months. He's been doing mission work for years, so Amy knows about his passion for that work and probably wasn't surprised when Coach Goehle told her he was thinking about moving on to new things.

Amy might know Assibey from his two years at Colorado.
