Weidner Out for the Year

Per Matt Coatney just now. Allison's knee injury is "major" and she is believed to be out for the year.

This is just so not fair, and I'm not even talking about basketball wins and losses or the impact on the season. Allison has fought so hard to be a Husker and play the game she loves. The fact her knees keep letting her down is just one of those totally unfair things about life. She seems like a really good person too, and I hate it when bad things like this happen to good young people.

I remember her play before the first injury. Her ability to turn on the speed and take it to the basket was amazing. Nebraska has several more wins if she could have completed her first two seasons.
But as you say, that is not the part that matters the most. She seemed like just the perfect teammate and someone who is so easy to like. One of the saddest runs of injuries I can remember. Wishing her the best for whatever comes next.

Hopefully Amy will have a further update before or after the Iowa game. Selfishly, I hope Allison decides to do the rehab and come back again. I think she's entitled to at least two redshirt (one regular, one medical) years so she could be a Husker for at least another 3 years if she wants.

However, I will totally understand if she's just had enough. Rehab stinks. I can't even imagine going through a knee injury rehab three years in a row. As somebody who's had lots of physical challenges in my life, IMO even though you've been through the rehab before it actually doesn't get any easier. Mentally, I think it makes it harder.

With both Allison and Natalie out for the year, the Huskers are down to 11 players. I know the plan was to redshirt Kennadi this year because she had two knee injuries in HS. When/if the doctors clear her it'll be interesting to see if the coaching staff sticks to that plan. I've never seen Kennadi play, but she seems like that small speedy guard the Huskers have always had since Sam Haiby was in Lincoln.

With Allison out, the Huskers are going to absolutely need somebody to step up and provide some scoring from the guard spots off the bench. Britt played 36 minutes against Rutgers. As we get deeper into the B1G schedule, those minutes are going to start adding up rapidly. It's common for many freshmen to hit a "wall" at some point late in the season because of the difference between HS and college ball. Playing 36+ minutes at least a couple nights a week isn't going to help with that.
