Minneapolis - Nebraska took No. 3 Iowa to the brink, forcing overtime against the defending champion Hawkeyes before falling 94-89 in the extra period in front of 18,534 fans and a CBS national television audience at the Target Center on Sunday.
  • Junior first-team All-Big Ten center Alexis Markowski tied the Nebraska school record with her 40th career double-double by leading the Huskers (22-11) with 23 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals. The Hawkeyes could only slow Markowski, who joined her Husker teammates in sending a strong message about the rise of the Nebraska program throughout the successful week in Minneapolis.
  • With Iowa focused on stopping Markowski, Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Year Natalie Potts added a huge game of her own with 21 points and nine boards to help keep Nebraska in control for most of the game.
  • All-Big Ten guard Jaz Shelley added the 13th double-double of her career with 16 points and a career-high 13 assists to go along with six rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots. Her free throws with 2:38 left in regulation put Nebraska in front 75-67 after the two teams went to the fourth quarter tied at 58.

Not sure that was enough to move up to the # 7 line (even though Tennessee moved up after a close lost to #1 South Carolina). Either way, getting a first round win before facing a #1 or #2 seed might be the ceiling this season.

not so much Hawkeyes as it was fatigue from 4 straight days of facing hard teams, thedouble bye that iowa got and Indiana being upset, made this the easiest route Iowa ever had to the championship game. They should be concerned however how well this unranked team has handled them this year. They will be facing some "ranked" teams but Iowa will. be in good shape playing fairly easy competition for 2 rounds, then they may have a problem after that without much depth on that team.
 
First Nebraska women's game I've gotten to watch this year. Was really impressed with how they played. Was impressed with how well they rebounded, shot and defended. They definitely exposed some things about Iowa. I think the Hawkeyes are going to struggle against teams with a good post presence. Markowski dominated early on.

Think fatigue definitely settled in during the 2nd half. Lost some people on the defensive end and got sloppy on some possessions. That said, they gave Clark all she could handle. She might have scored 34, but it wasn't anywhere close to an efficient 34.

I too remember that shot with about 20 seconds left on the shot clock. It wasn’t a good shot and they needed to burn more clock.

If they get a decent draw and play like this they could easily make the sweet 16

I have to agree with you. Jaz and Co have really been sensational down the stretch. Amongst the others, I am really going to miss Jaz, after the tournament is over; She has been such a wonder breath of fresh air! :Rockon:

I just watched the interview with Amy and the girls. Wow, that was so heart wrenching. I really, really feel for them all. Heck, I almost cried, myself. Again, I am so very, very proud of this team and the staff. They have gone way over expectations, and I am confident, they can go a long, long way in the tourney. In fact, I hope they get a chance to play Iowa, once more. I don't believe any other team has playedI owa any tougher! Again, my heart goes out to these fine, young gals. Go get 'em, ladies!! Again, so very, very proud of them. :)

:) I did not mean she should get skinny! ;) I just think she gets winded sooner than most. If she wants to go pro, she will need to lose just a little. All in all, she played one hell of a game yesterday. I really feel, we should have won that game, because I really believe we outplayed Iowa. Disappointed, the crowd was so pro Iowa! :( I don't think it mattered, because our gals played even harder!!

An interesting stat would be to know how many of millions of those viewers had the volume off.

I, for one, was squawking at the refs for helping keep Iowa in the game during the first half.

However, they did a good job staying out of the action in the 2nd half, especially late in the game and in OT, IMO.
