The Nebraska women’s basketball team will wear red uniforms at home when the Huskers play host to Michigan in a key Big Ten Conference clash on Wednesday night in Lincoln.
  • Nebraska hopes to bounce back from its second Big Ten loss when it faces Michigan, after the Huskers suffered a tight 62-58 setback at Minnesota on Sunday. The Huskers (34) and Wolverines (42) sit in a pack of five Big Ten teams (27-Maryland, 30-Penn State, 34-Minnesota) ranked between No. 25 and 45 in the NCAA NET and fighting for position in the conference standings.

Scouting the Michigan Wolverines
Coach Kim Barnes Arico brings the Wolverines to Lincoln with a 12-5 record and a 3-2 Big Ten mark after a 76-52 win over Wisconsin Saturday in Ann Arbor. The win over the Badgers followed back-to-back losses to Minnesota (82-66, Jan. 9) and at Indiana (80-59, Jan. 4).
  • Michigan produced its best season in school history with a trip to the 2022 NCAA Elite Eight after advancing to the first-ever NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2021. Last year, Michigan was knocked out in the NCAA second round by eventual champion LSU.
  • The Wolverines lost starters Leigha Brown (17.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 5.8 apg), Emily Kiser (15.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 2.9 apg) and Maddie Nolan (9.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.0 apg).
Michigan is averaging 71.9 points and hitting 42.8 percent of its field goal attempts, including 36.2 percent of its threes, while making 7.4 threes per game in Big Ten action. The Wolverines own a plus-8.7 team rebounding margin and a plus-4.1 turnover margin. Michigan is surrendering just 58.1 points per game while holding opponents to 40 percent shooting.

Looking at the stats, Huskers shot 3 of 17 on three pointers? Good thing we controlled the offensive boards.

Doing the math.

The offensive rebounds gave us 13 more shots, allowing us to make 8 more shots than them (16 points), Michigan gets one 1 extra point from the three point line (15 points). Outscored them at the free throw line by 4 (19 points).

And really good to see because in previous years, we lived by the 3 and died by it. If we couldn't hit the trey, we were toast. Being able to overcome that a couple of times this season has been really important to the good start.

Lincoln - Freshman Natalie Potts produced her third double-double of the season with game highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead four Huskers in double figures, as the Nebraska women's basketball team rolled to a 62-43 win over Michigan at Pinnacle Bank Arena, improving to 5-2 in the Big Ten and 13-5 overall. Potts also pulled down six offensive rebounds to power the Big Red's 21 offensive boards on the night, which they turned into 15 second-chance points.
  • Graduate guard Darian White matched Potts with 13 points, while adding five defensive rebounds.
  • Junior guard Kendall Moriarty added a huge effort off the bench with a season-high 11 points to go along with a pair of steals.
  • Junior center Alexis Markowski added 10 points while contributing seven rebounds and two steals.
In a low-scoring defensive slugfest, Nebraska led from start-to-finish for the second straight home game, jumping to a 12-3 lead in the first five minutes. The Huskers held a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained the nine-point edge (28-19) at halftime.

The Big Red held Michigan to just 32.6 percent (15-46) shooting from the field, including 4-of-15 three-pointers (.267), while limiting their sixth opponent of the season to fewer than 50 points, including their second straight Big Ten foe at home (Illinois, 48).
