Preseason All-Big Ten forward Jessica Shepard led the Huskers with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while senior center Allie Havers added 10 points and seven boards.

A balanced Nebraska attack and a stingy defense that kept 2016 Western Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year Shawnte’ Goff in check, gave Coach Amy Williams her first win as Nebraska’s coach.

Scouting Missouri
The No. 24 Missouri Tigers come to Lincoln for the first time since joining the Southeastern Conference. Nebraska leads the all-time series with Missouri 40-31 in one of the longest and oldest series in school history, dating back to Jan. 21, 1977.

The Tigers, who went 22-10 overall last season, including an 8-8 SEC mark that was good for a tie for seventh in the conference, returned all five starters from a team that advanced to the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

Missouri opened with a 52-46 win over defending Southland Conference champion Abilene Christian on Friday in Columbia, Mo. Sophomore Sophie Cunningham led four Tigers in double figures with 13 points. Cunningham was MU’s leading scorer as a freshman in 2015-16, averaging 14.0 and 5.8 rebounds per contest.

As expected, on the wrong end of a blowout. 35 points at home by the Huskers, tied for second lowest all-time. Get used to it. Least talent on a squad since the mess Yori inherited from Sanderford in her first year. Williams has her work cut out for her; she has a couple of nice transfers who will be eligible next year, but we need a lot more. And it won't be easy getting players from a position at the bottom of the conference.

Early Season Jitters; left far too many points on the floor from poor shooting, inability to finish, and at the FT Line. Good news is the spread didn't increase a lot as the game progressed. Down by 19 during the first half, the team fought back to about 14 pts, ended by losing by 20. Bad news is team's frustration by inability to score vs highly ranked team.

Could have used 'Burns' aggressive play tonight, but she'll be more valuable next year.

LJS:
Huskers historically bad on offense in loss to Missouri
The three-pointers were dropping early for the Nebraska women’s basketball team Monday against Missouri, but that was all.

Nebraska missed the first 16 two-point field goals it attempted in what was a historically bad game on offense for for the Huskers in a 55-35 loss to No. 25 Missouri in the second round of the Preseason WNIT at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Jessica Shepard led Nebraska with 12 points and nine rebounds. Missouri focused its half-court defense on Shepard, and held her to 3-for-13 on two-point field goals. She was 1-for-4 on three-pointers.

Freshman guard Nicea Eliely added eight points for the Huskers, and Maddie Simon had six off the bench.

Nebraska had 10 turnovers, which wasn’t bad. But the Huskers made just 10 of 63 field-goal attempts and were just 9-for-17 on free throws.
