WBB 2025-2026 Season Thread

Huskers still an #11 seed vs. Richmond.

Inexplicably, Creme's also got Arizona St. in and S. Dakota St. out despite the fact ASU is out of the Big 12 tournament and S. Dakota St. plays N. Dakota St. for their conference championship tomorrow. One at-large bid opened up when Columbia lost. He says ASU's back in "after a second look at their resume." Translation: "I can't explain why I put ASU in, but they're in."

I guess he's giving Richmond credit for a W over Penn State and playing (and losing to) some other good OOC teams? That's despite the fact PSU was so bad this season their HC got fired. That's just stupid. Creme's once again giving a terrible P4 program more credit than it deserves. Richmond should have beaten PSU like they did. A team also really shouldn't get credit because they got a guarantee game at Texas they lost by 29 pts and games they lost to TCU by 16 and Fairfield by 20 at home.

If you're putting two A-10 teams in, it should be Rhode Island and GMU. There's also no reason for UVA to top the Last Four In list when they lost their last three games, including going one and done in the ACC Tournament. He's got BYU out even though they won 5 of their last 6, including two wins over Utah and one over Colorado.

All this probably means the Huskers are safe. IMO if Mason beats Rhode Island, Mason maybe gets Richmond's at-large bid. The winner of S. Dakota St. vs. ND State gets a bid, the loser probably gets hosed. His opinion on the bubble teams after conference tournament results are factored in doesn't make sense to me, but he usually doesn't. I really wouldn't even be shocked to see him only give the A-10 one bid in his next bracket later today. The NET shouldn't matter more than the conference tournament. Otherwise, why not go back to the old days when there were no conference tournaments?

Lastly, I really, really hope we don't get #11 GMU vs. #11 Nebraska. That would be utter agony for me!! At least Richmond I already don't like. BTW, Mason could win that hyopthetical matchup,

With Richmond's loss yesterday, Huskers pass them to now be the second to the last team in, still playing Richmond in Louisville.

To insure Nebraska stays in, I think we need NDSU, Princeton, Rhode Island, Fairfield, and obviously UConn to win their tournaments.

I think only U Conn and Princeton are definite. Not sure that the others are locks to be in.

another underwhelming season is over...maybe one more game..maybe not

If they don't get into the NCAA tournament, I hope they'll play in the WBIT. Minnesota won that last season and gained experience that led them to the #4 spot in the conference this season.

Well, so far Charlie Creme still has the Huskers as one of the last four in, playing in Fort Worth. I can't see putting a Big Ten school (Oregon) in Iowa City.

USA Today and CBS both with Nebraska as one of the last four in, as well. I think it's premature to talk about firing Amy Williams. 3 NCAA tournament appearances in 4 years, including a first-round win two years ago, and came within a hair's breadth of beating Iowa and Caitlin Clark to win a Big 10 title two seasons back.

In some ways I feel like this season is the reverse of 2022-23 where we had several big road wins against ranked teams, a ranked home win as well, and a nice win vs Miss. St. but finished 18-15 in part because our non-conference schedule was really tough that year. Instead of getting credit for that, we got left out of the tournament. This year we beat up on cupcakes and might make it in anyway.

This year was always going to be a transitional year with us losing possibly the best player the women's program has ever had in Alexis Markowski, and it's a transition year that was waylaid from the beginning by Weidner again getting hurt and Potts never coming back from last year's injury. Jess Petrie is a good all-around player but she's not Markowski, and Bozan, while young, is not yet where she needs to be.

I think we got our hopes up too high slapping around a really weak non-conference schedule and didn't realize what was likely to happen once we entered conference play. The emergence of Amiah Hargrove has been wonderful to watch, Britt Prince is of course fantastic, Hake is a steal and assist machine and Nissley is an excellent 3-point shooter, but as much as I give credit to the bench in stepping up to try and fill the void created by Potts and Weidner's absence, it's not enough.

So yeah, this season was a disappointment in some ways, with some aggravating failures to seal out wins late, and several blown leads, but if our worst season in the last 5 is an 18-12 finish where we might still sneak into the tournament, I think it's too early to talk about a coaching change. Let's see if we can get Weidner and Potts on the court next year with the great majority of the current roster coming back and see what happens before we go looking for a new coach.

And THREE top 100 recruits joining the roster.

Crazy talk.

#11 seed for the Huskers!! Play Richmond as a play-in. #6 Baylor if they win. In Durham NC, hosted by Duke (so Huskers would get Duke if they can get there)

Not sure if dates are final --- if ESPN has them correctly posted (as the TV provider), Huskers will play on Wednesday night (and Friday if they win). EDIT: confirmed on Huskers.com.. "Nebraska earned a No. 11 seed in the tournament and will face fellow No. 11 seed Richmond in the First Four in Durham, N.C., on Wednesday, March 18. Game time and television information has yet to be announced."

My wife is a season ticket holder for Iowa women, so we can attend the Arizona State / Virginia game on Thursday night as part of the Saturday/Monday cycle. I may need to send someone else to sit in that seat if the Husker men are playing at the same time to go to the Sweet Sixteen.
